BKK 11 Dec 2015 - YES OF COURSE!
Friday, 11 December 2015, as with all our other mornings in Bangkok, it was a really slow start. We eventually left the apartment and headed to some doggy cafe. I was under the impression that Denise was the one who requested to go to this cafe because it is known to have many huskies and Denise loves dogs. Of course, I am a dog lover and it was some place new and interesting, so I was happy to go too.
We took the BTS to Ari station. Because we had time, we decided to take the slow, approximately 20-minute walk in to the place. It was hot, but we kept right on walking and finally reached the place, which I discovered to be called "True Love Cafe".
For 350 baht per person, we got a free cake/ice cream and drink. We each ordered a main dish as it was brunch for us. We were first given a table inside, then moved to a table outside so that we could be closer to the area for the dogs to walk around freely. While eating the mediocre main dishes, we could see the dogs roaming about the area, doing big and small business at various spots, in front of us... It was very interesting... haha.
This husky kept barking but it was a hoarse sound that came out whenever he barked. Eugene did an absolutely hilarious imitation of the poor dog:
At one point, the dog owners also fed vegetable-snacks to the greedy dogs:
The announcement was then made that us visitors could begin preparations to enter the enclosed area. They would then let the dogs roam about us freely. We could approach the dogs to pet them or take photographs with them. We were warned not to get too close to their faces when taking selfies. As long as they were not provoked and were just left to wander about, the dogs were really mild and tame. I was looking forward to get closer to them and touch their nice fur coats.
We were one of the last few to go in though, because I thought Eugene had gone to the toilet. So us 3 girls were just waiting at our table. I saw the lady owner carry a puppy husky into the indoor portion of the cafe. I was wondering why they took out that puppy and assumed they were taking some necessary action on the dog and did not think too much about it. Then I saw Eugene carrying the same puppy, he stepped out of the indoor area and walked towards me, smiling. I was thinking, "HUH how much extra did he pay to get us the privilege of this puppy coming out of the enclosure and to our table?"
Next thing I knew, he went down on one knee with the dog in his arms. I looked down at his smiling face, looked at the dog, saw the pouch with the ring round the dog's neck, AND REALISED HE WAS PROPOSING. hahaha I really did not expect it to be like that.
Eugene was so nervous, he jumped straight to the point and asked me to marry him, which I replied, "Yes OF COURSE!" I took the ring off the dog's neck and Denise had to remind Eugene that he should put the ring on my finger. He nervously put down the puppy, and as he took the ring from me and slipped it onto my finger, I could see that his hands were shaking so much! Eugene was really cute... haha.
I absolutely ADORE the ring! Eugene went to a jeweller who runs his own store to get this ring customised. Eugene did his research and gave the design idea to the guy to do. I was expecting a simple band with one small stone, which is what I told Eugene. I did not want/need a diamond. I did not want it to stick out. I would rather he save the money on the engagement ring and put it towards our future house. What he got in the end has far exceeded my expectations, and it is way beyond my imagination! I am really very pleased with it:)
11 December is also a very special day for us. It is the day we first got together - 11 December 2010. I only realised the significance of the date the next morning, haha.
Anyway, after the proposal, we went into the enclosure to take photos with some of the dogs. Quite a few of them were so 'nua'! Their fur coat was really nice to stroke. One of the bigger dogs suddenly came towards where we seated and bent down under my legs and decided to lie down there. It reminded me SO much of my dearest General:)
This dog immediately above is said to be one of the oldest huskies in this pack. Hence his lethargy. He did not even care when other dogs came along and tried to bother him by checking out his backside...
After contact time with the dogs ended at about 2pm, we headed back to our table and had ice cream log cake. We then left the cafe, very happy and satisfied with the entire experience!
From the cafe, we took a tuktuk to Ari BTS station. We took a train towards Platinum Mall and came across some major cycling event called Bike for Dad. Many major roads in Bangkok were closed. There were also people everywhere wearing the t-shirt.
We spent a good 2-3 hours at Platinum Mall and bought a lot of stuff! Tired but happy, we headed back to our apartment to drop off stuff and rest a little bit before we headed to the train night market, which ended up as not the one we intended to go to. We did not know that another "branch" of some sort had been opened. It was not as big or fun as the original one. The one we went to is called Talad Rot Fai Ratchada. We still had a nice time together though:)
By the end of the night, my back was killing me! It was a really good day though, and I kept looking at the ring, immensely pleased. I still am actually:)
