My siblings and I

Image
I just read my sister's blog and HAD to "run" in here to post the photo that my sister found of the three of us! It seems like she has been packing her box of old photos and, oh boy! I LOVE this shot because my sister, brother and I were all smiling sooooo nicely (Well, maybe except for my brother because his hand is covering his mouth, but it's still quite a cute post)! Take a look! And this next shot is of me with my sister. By the way, I'm the baby in the photo. ;) I think our smiles are so nice in this photo as well! :) My sister and I didn't use to be very close, partly because of our big age gap of 10 years. I used to be very scared of her actually. But recently, after the BOTH of us discovered the great JOYS of drama serials, especially Korean ones, we started to bond over TV. My parents always call the TV the "one-eyed monster", but to me, it's the "bonding box" because I've found a grrreat friend in my sister!

Crying out in the Center of the World

I couldn't find a suitable picture of the VCD cover of this Japanese Drama serial so here is a picture of the 2 lead characters instead. I find that the guy has quite a "duh" look, whereas the girl is actually quite pretty. If you're wondering if this story is the same as the Japanese movie that was showing in cinemas sometime this year, yes it is. In fact, the movie is adapted from this drama serial, if I'm not wrong. I haven't watched the movie so I am not sure if the way the story is told is exactly the same. In this SLOOOWWW-moving drama serial, it flashes to the time when they were 17 years old (photo of them when they were 17) and flashes to the "present", which is 17 years after, which means, both of them should be 34 years old already. Except that the girl died of leukemia when she was 17. So this shows how the guy deals with her death, how he tries to move on in life and basically centers around how they actually met at age 17, their love st...

Monster-in-law

Image
My Sec 1 cell girls came over to my house today to watch "Monster-in-law" starring Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda. Michael Vartan also acted in this movie but he doesn't appear much. I must confess that the most probable reason why I like this show is because it has Michael Vartan acting, just look at him! ;) I first "fell in love" with him when I watched "Never Been Kissed". There, he smiled and charmed his way into Drew Barrymore's heart, as well as my heart. ;) I never realized he acted in "Monster-in-law" as well, until today. Anyhow, it was an interesting show that ended really nicely. So far, the romantic movies that I've seen Jennifer Lopez star in, which is actually only "The Wedding Planner" and this movie, have been quite entertaining. It is not as if I have something against Jennifer Lopez, I just haven't been too fond of her. Oh well. Michael Vartan fans, if you want to see him being sweet and romantic, watch...

The Prince who turned into a Frog

Image
Otherwise known as "wang zi bian qing wa" in Chinese. It is now being shown on Channel U every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 7.30-8.30pm (Although I think they're going to change the timing to 7-8, but I just don't know when). For impatient people like me, the show is sold in 3 volumes, and the 3rd volume is just out. There. Now that publicity is over. I must tell you what I think of this show. :) It's really funny, especially the sound effects that are placed in various scenes. The chemistry between the 2 leads in this show is palpable as well, which makes it very enjoyable! The ending was a little silly, but still funny! Initially, it's ALOT like a Korean Drama Serial entitled "Save the last dance for me" because the guy loses his memory, meets the girl, they fall in love, then he regains his memory only to forget the whole period where he fell in love with the girl. The difference here is that the Korean guy regains ALL his memory. Whereas i...

Last day of JC1

Image
I can't believe that today was my last day as a JC1, I mean, it's quite unreal. I remember how 'alien' I felt the first day of school because I didn't know a single person in SAJC. At orientation, I had to be very thick-skinned and start conversations with people sitting with me in my OG. What more, I always asked myself if I had made the right choice to choose SAJC over ACJC. Now, there's no more turning back because next year, goodness, I'm going to be a JC TWO in SAJC! My last day didn't seem like a usual last day. A usual last day should hold some sentimental value, right? I mean, it's not only my last day as a JC1 student, it's also the last official day of lessons in our Malan Road campus. Yet nobody seemed sad. Once our last lesson was over, everybody just packed up and left like a normal day of school, as if we were going to see each other come Monday for lessons as usual. Not interesting one. ;) Anyway, here are some photos I took on the...

Nationality: SINGAPOREAN

Image
After reading this book, I feel SO proud to be a Singaporean! And I'm also so proud of myself that I've FINALLY completed this book! My father first lent me this book beginning of this year and I was quite diligent in reading it in the first three months. Then somehow, this book was buried under piles of stuff on my table, such that I forgot all about it. Until recently. Now that Promos are over, it seems like everybody's reading and I figured I better finish up this book so that I could give my dad a positive report about it. Anyhow, Kishore Mahbubani is currently the ambassador of Singapore to the United Nations, New York, and concurrently, as Singapore's High Commissioner to Canada. His English is so profound yet so concise. This book is actually a compilation of speeches and essays he has presented or written, where each argument he puts across is so persuasive, so convincing, and quite valid as well. After reading the second-last article in his book entitled "...

Pre-Birthday Indian Dinner

Please don't be mistaken, my birthday's long gone, but if you think about it in terms of NEXT year, it's QUITE soon! ;) Well, I'm actually talking about my dad's pre-birthday dinner at an Indian Restaurant called Chat Masala. I say "pre-birthday" because his birthday's only tomorrow and as much as we would have liked to have a family birthday dinner on the actual day itself, the church elders' board had already "choped" my dad for dinner come tomorrow night. My dad has been a perpetual lover of Indian cuisine since... who-knows-when. He's always joking that he has an Indian girlfriend hidden somewhere in Singapore so that he can always look for her when he feels like having an Indian meal. My family is not that keen on Indian food so my dad always finds Indian friends to have lunch with on weekdays so that he could enjoy his fair share of Indian cuisine. At this point, I must say that it is not as if my family hates Indian food to the...

If You were Me

Image
This is the weirdest, most thought-provoking Korean movie I've ever watched in my entire life. I rented this movie because it had the handsome actor by the name of Ji Jin Hee (He's the face on the top of the cover). This movie actually consists of 6 short stories that are plain weird. I got so tired trying to interpret the meaning of 5 out of the 6 stories that I got so sleepy, I almost fell asleep at the last story. Here is a review I took from the website of the Londons Film Festival: It’s an obvious truism that portmanteau features are always mixed bags, but this anthology of shorts by six leading Korean directors is more coherent than most – largely because it was made for the National Human Rights Commission, and so all but one of its episodes deals with a human rights issue. (The exception is Park Kwang-Su’s neat little car-park ghost story, made before the project picked up its focus.) Park Chan-Wook (of Sympathy for Mr Vengeance) tackles racial prejudice and the economi...

Back from a 6-week break

Image
Because of my promotional exams, I took a study break from playing the keyboard in the church worship ministry from the beginning of September. TODAY was the fateful day that I got to resume duty as a keyboardist, man. How I looked forward to this day. By the 2nd week into my study break, my fingers were ITCHING to work with the keyboard and the worship team. :) I think it was at last Christmas, a good friend of mine gave me this figurine that really reminded him of me. I thought it really true too. Because it was then that I realized how important playing the piano and being part of the worship ministry actually was to me. Take a look at the cute figurine! So cute, right! ;) According to my band leader, the break did me some good because I have come back with "fresh ideas". It made me really happy to hear that, but come to think of it, what "fresh ideas" did I come up with anyway? All in all, I'm really thankful I've been blessed with such a useful, enjoyab...

Cell bonding

Our first ever cell bonding! I met Eugene, Kar Jun and Zhulong to take the MRT down to Harbourfront for breakfast with our other cell members early in the morning. Then we adjourned to the house of Ben's parents. It has been AGES since I last visited this condo! It still looks so new! They really take good care of the condition of this condo. We played Twister as an ice-breaker and I think Ben has a few blackmail-worthy photos of my backside in the air because I was made to do a split-like pose. There was another time when my head was at somebody's backside. Luckily he didn't choose to let out gas when my head was in such an unfortunate placing. In the middle of worship, however, I had to head to church for worship practice. Then after worship practice I travelled back across Singapore to join my cell for dinner. So, I took the train to Harbourfront, then to Kovan, and THEN again to Harbourfront. Thank GOD for NEL! BBQ dinner was FANTASTIC. I was completely STUFFED! Pity I ...

Results!

*show off alert* Today, we got back our results and I improved TREMENDOUSLY compared to Common Test! My results at Common Test: D - Lit O - Math, Econs, Geog B4 - GP, Chinese Total points: 29 [FAIL] (To pass, 30 points are needed) And now for my results at the Final Examination: B - Math C - Econs, Lit D - Geog B4 - GP, Chinese Total points: 52.5 [PASS] CONGRATULATE ME! Heh. And you know what's the best thing about all this? Oh dear... I've forgotten what I wanted to mention as the "best thing about all this". Sorry. Will update this entry when I do remember what I intended to write in. :)

1st Post-promos activity...

...SHOPPING BOPPING! Ok, I just created "bopping" out of no where. Just needed something to rhyme with "shopping". ;) 1st thing Friday, 7th October, after our Math paper, TDT had a shopping trip together! Jien was pretty much broke so between Tina and myself, I spent the most! Besides Friday, there was today as well. After our PW meeting at Orchard Library, Jien and I went on another shopping trip in town. Of course, it was just me buying stuff because, Jien was pretty much broke. Here's my loot collected over 2 days of shopping, hope I don't miss out anything: 2 pairs of earrings 2 tops 1 bag 1 pair of shoes 1 glittery hairband 5 (I think) glittery hair ties WHOO! But there's the big hole in my pocket. It has come to a point where I had to dig into my savings. :( HOWEVER, I'm still very happy. VERY satisfied!

1st Sunday after promos

For the first time in about 6 weeks I was able to enjoy myself after lunch with the 17-year-olds. Usually, I would rush back home to study or don't even join them for lunch. Today, they could come over to my house to hang out and, because my dad was out of the country so no family dinner, I could join them for dinner! We definitely had a fun time playing Taboo and watching Coach Carter. Talking about Coach Carter, it was my 3rd time watching this show, but it still had its interesting parts. "What is your deepest fear?"

One piece of 'lao po bing' for 3 people

Image
Extra info: lao po bing =wife cake My dad came back from Hong Kong last night and he bought back walnut cookies, a box of "wife cakes" and some lup cheong (Chinese sausage in teochew). Just now, right after dinner, my mum took out one lao po bing for my dad to eat. I wanted to try it so my dad said he would give me one part of it. I happily waited. Then as my dad was about to cut the lao po bing , my mum said she wanted one part of it as well. My dad nodded in acknowledgement of what she just said and proceeded to cut the piece of lao po bing . He didn't cut it into 3 equal pieces, instead he cut it into 3 sections like this: By the way, a piece of lao po bing is round. :) Of course, my dad took the largest piece. Man, my dad is hilarious.

Discovery

Image
I made this discovery a few weeks ago and have been meaning to blog about it because I'm still quite amazed at this find of mine, although I think it will be nothing great for all of you out there. So. On to my discovery. Those of you who have watched "Mars ( zhan shen) ", the Taiwanese Drama Serial starring Vic Zhou and Barbie Hsu should probably know the starting song of the show titled "ling"? Unless you're a hopeless fast-forward-er like my sister and I whenever we watch a drama serial, then you probably wouldn't know this song because you would have just fast forward through the opening song. We usually don't bother to listen to the opening song but this time around, I did. The song's really catchy and I think it fits the show very well. All this while, I thought the singer of this song was... how to put it nicely... MATURE. However, I realized he's really young! His name is Alan Ke You Lun and, according to this website I found that off...

Magical facial wash

Image
Recently, my mum bought me a new brand of facial wash because the one I've been using for a long time now, is no longer being produced. As you can see on the left, the brand is Beauty Circle. Let me tell you why it is magical. This afternoon, I was cramming in all the Geography information that I needed for my exam tomorrow when I started to feel VERY sleepy. I then decided to take a power nap of 15 precious minutes. 15 minutes later, I woke up feeling even sleepier! My friend suggested that I wash my face. So I took up on this suggestion and used this new facial wash. My goodness! A few minutes later I emerged out of the bathroom feeling AWAKE! REFRESHED! Like I'd just gone for a comfortable face massage! If you ever come to my house one day and you feel sleepy, try this. It's magical. Oh wait. You could just buy it. :)
