Childhood best friends

I finally spent quality time with Jolene today when we met at 5.30pm in Orchard to buy birthday presents for our godfather, Uncle Johnny, and our 2 godbrothers, Daniel and Darren. Then we hurried down to Orchard Marsche to meet Uncle Johnny's family and our godbrothers' godmothers for Darren's birthday dinner. Besides not spending alot of time with Jolene, it has also been AGES since I last had a proper conversation with my godparents and their children. Besides, one of their godmothers once was my teacher in JET class, and I really remember loving her lessons. I still miss them now! The one thing I'll never be able to forget is the bible-flipping competitions she used to organize for the class, pitting the girls against the guys, and the best thing ever was that the girls ALWAYS won the boys! She would then give us girls stickers, where I would paste them in my old bible. That is why I treasure my old bible so much because of all the memories from JET class. Can I plea...

Happy belated Birthday Boon Yeow!

I completely forgot that the 28th of April was my Ah Kong's birthday and I'm very sorry for actually forgetting! I didn't realize it was actually the 28th until on the 29th, after Youth Ablaze, Ah Kong himself said, "Lynn you didn't wish me Happy Birthday yesterday." I completely stopped in my tracks and realized it was ALREADY the 29th of April! Well, Ah Kong is very caring and he's very sensitive to my mood swings too. He can just take a look at my face and then ask me or sms me later asking, "Are you ok? You don't look too good." Then I wouldn't be able to help it but tend to pour everything out to him, even though most of it constitutes big-time whining and complaining. He is also ever receptive to comments or feedback, especially when it comes to the YPM worship team. Oh! And he even offers to fetch me home from church very readily when he's available to. Thank you Ah Kong! I thank God for you! :)

The Princess Diaries: Seventh Heaven

In slightly over a day, I've finished the seventh book in "The Princess Diaries" series. Man, it was really funny and a lighthearted book. An easy read. Not something that I had to read a little slower to let the full impact of the words soak in, or something that I had to read a little bit slower to fully appreciate the author's expressions and way with words. I must let you read this funny part of the book that got me laughing out loud. Luckily nobody happened to poke his or her head into my room at this point in time because he or her would probably think I was crazy. But first, some background info. Princess Mia's grandmother wants to put up her very own musical entitled "Braid!" and she's holding auditions for the students in Mia's school. On the day of auditions, Mia tagged along to check it out with no intention of auditioning for any roles, but her grandmother asked her to anyway. So here goes... "What I said instead was, 'I'...

The End of "The End of Poverty"

I've finally completed Jeffrey Sach's "The End of Poverty"! I like how he ended the whole book, with a quote from a man called Robert Kennedy: "' It is from the numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.' Let the future say of our generation that we sent forth mighty currents of hope, and that we worked together to heal the world." MAN, I felt so inspired when I read this closing paragraph. Suddenly I just felt like telling everyone, "C'mon! Let's go end poverty in the world!", as if I can make a big difference with its effects being shown immediately. I mean, (sorry Jien)I'm s...

TOMORROW'S 'D' DAY!

After approximately 6 years, I'm taking off my braces! Hope everything goes smoothly and I won't experience a major disappointment tomorrow morning where my orthodontist suddenly tells me, "Lynn Ern, I'm sorry but we will have to delay the taking off of your braces". Oh God, please! NO! Although, I don't really know what to expect to see in the mirror because I can't remember myself WITHOUT braces. Oh dear.

MAD Rush!

To school My sister woke me up at SEVEN TWENTY a.m. when assembly's at 7.30a.m.! Coincidentally, Tina was also late as well! She had just gotten into a cab when she read my sms so she called then asked the cab uncle to drive to my house to pick me up. I RAN out of the house! Reached school during assembly, so we were punished by having to sit at the foyer for the first period of the day. I really thank God for Tina because if I was on my own, I think things would have turned out much worse. To home It was raining heavily but Tina and I walked out anyway to catch a cab home because she had to change while I had to drop off my school stuff before going to Orchard for an appointment with my orthodontist. To Orchard Ran out of the house after changing to meet Tina and to catch a cab. Dropped her off at school before the cab uncle proceeded to Orchard, with me praying that I'll reach there in time for the appointment! But I got there 10 minutes late. (Thankfully I could make my own ...

A day of...

1) Cabbing So. I cabbed from school to Orchard for lunch with Julie, Bella, Sheryl and Olive and my appointment with my orthodontist. Then I cabbed back to school with Julie and Bella. After which I cabbed to West Coast Park with Caron and Julie. And LASTLY, I cabbed home from West Coast Park with Yinmay, Hui Ling and Iven (This ba gua J1 in Sports Club. He thought I was a scholar , while another J1 thought I was a Peranakkan. Will wonders never cease.). 2) Stuffing myself silly The 5 of us ate lunch at Billy Bomber's where we ate ALOT of chicken. Julie had 2 1-for-1 coupons which she wanted to get rid off. Well, we left the restaurant with, if I'm not wrong, 5 more of those annoying 1-for-1 coupons. The chickens were fabulous but NO MORE please! Then at dinner, it was REALLY worth it because the western stall aunty gave us alot of food per person, but it was too much! It didn't help that a big number of Sports Club people had to rush back to school for the Chinese Orches...

The List

After going on a book-shopping trip with Jien on Tuesday to Kino at Taka, my desire to read more books besides my Lit books have returned with full force. So just now, I compiled the list of books I've yet to read, with 2 books that Jien says she'll lend me when I'm ready for them. Here goes: 1) "Angela's Ashes" by Frank McCourt 2) "A god of small things" by insert the author's name here (Jien and I can't remember his name) 3) "In her shoes" by Jennifer Weiner 4) "Size 12 is not fat" by Meg Cabot (My FAV author!) 5) "My Sister's Keeper" by Jodi Picoult 6) "Emily Ever After" by Anne Dayton and May Vanderbilt 7) "Sassy Cinderella and the Valient Vigilante" by Sharon Dunn 8) "I do!" by Melody Carlson 9) "The Broker" by John Grisham ONE COMPLICATION: I'm still reading a book called "The End of Poverty" by Jeffrey Sachs. A book that I've been reading since,...

Random thoughts

It's the first day of the week and already I've had a few disappointments and not-so-happy moments BUT, at least I've gotten NAPFA over and done with! Okok thoughts will be numbered and they probably won't make much sense if you try to link them up. After all, I must keep up the nickname of "Miss R (for random)" that was given to me by the 18-year-old guys. 1) 2.4km is OVER! Jien and I ran today and we ran... like the wind? Noisy wind I must say, because both of us were breathing rather loudly and we kept going "Excuse me!" to people who were blocking our way. Oh well who cares! We clocked in a timing below 13:30! Jien got 13:27 while I got 13:28, fantastic for me considering that I haven't been exercising much! 2) I keep thinking of songs from movies or drama serials. Tina and I were walking through Heartland Mall just now when they played 2 songs. The first one was "stupid cupid", which reminded me of Princess Diaries. The second one...

Difference in handwriting

Image
It's really very important to treasure and appreciate the friends around me so whenever I read my friends' blogs and they are being so appreciative as well, my heart is warmed. Well, I got this from Tina's blog. It's actually the note Jien and I wrote her during our Lit makeup lecture on Thursday. I posted it here mainly to point out the difference in our handwriting. Don't you think my handwriting looks mini beside Jien's? And the fact that her's is so cursive while mine is just... straight? No wonder Jien always says I'm so anal about handwriting. OKAY. Now that I've written out my thoughts I sound so wu liao . But to make this entry seem more substantial I just want to say thank you to Jien and Tina for being so supportive and encouraging, even as I try very hard to be a dependable friend to the both of you as well! :) Jien, let's have more Happy Meals! And Tina, more bubble teas and spiderweb buns please! ;) (Notice that it's all food? My...

More 18-yr-old fun, please?

This was taken last night after dinner, when we were walking back to church from 107. Amy was already limping quite badly so she finally caved in to the option of Eugene carrying her back to church. This was taken after dinner when we were just waiting (for who-knows-what) at the church foyer. Observe the 2 ice sticks (is the name correct?) Amy is holding at her foot. Eugene and Alekx couldn't locate any ice in the kitchen so they made do with this. Oh I remember now, we were waiting for Vennie to avail her driving skills and car to give us a lift home. Shu-En, Eliz and Alekx were staying over at Joanne's house while Amy and I were just waiting to go home. You should have seen the 6 of us squeezing into Vennie's car. Amy, being the injured one, sat in front, while the other 5 of us squeezed ourselves into the backseat. In the short ride from church to my house, one hilarious thing happened. Somebody (she shall remain anonymous to protect her reputation) suddenly exclaimed, ...

Happy Easter, everyone!

Today, it was the 2nd and last performance of the Easter skit put up by the YPM Creative Ministry. I must say, good job everyone, especially my stage crew (who are usually the sai kang people who don't get any recognition)! Well, I told Mr Toh today that he has probably earned himself one more crown in heaven already because of his invaluable support and help for yesterday and today's performances. In addition, it was quite a sight seeing Amy being piggy-backed by Eugene, and then Kah Wan today. Yesterday, she pulled a ligament on her right foot (mysterious unknown cause so please don't ask how) and it had gotten worse today. So she took a cab to church where Eugene and I were waiting for her at the foyer to "pick her up". Eugene did that, literally. From the cab, he piggy-backed her up the stairs to the room on level 2. Good on you, Eugene! I wish I had such a patient, caring cousin like you in MY family! ;) Then Kah Wan piggy-backed her from church to HEARTLAND...

"Put your own title here"

I'm sorry, I really can't think of any title for this entry (so it's a warning to you that the thoughts will be RATHER random)... > Kar Jun enlisted for NS early this morning! He's becoming a man soon! :) Reminds me of the time my BROTHER enlisted ... Next up to enlist! Melvin Goh! My dearest "daddy"! > I NEED to watch the movie version of "Silas Marner"! The clips shown to us at Lit lecture today were too interesting, especially the one that showed Eppie as the most adorable baby ever! > First ever SSC session with the new JC1s! We went kayaking at Bedok Reservoir and had a great time! Although I came home smelly and tired but it was still good fun! > The kayaking instructors were friendly and funny but one of them was just... so friendly it became quite scary. So I was washing the personal floating devices (PFDs) with 3 other Jc1s at one hose, when this instructor switched on the other hose and pointed this 2nd hose in my direction, at ...

18 years and 1 day old

Yet another 2 WONDERFUL surprises today after school! HOWEVER, before I do a short recount of the 2 wonderful surprises, I'm really happy to say that today I've finally managed to meet Diane! Although it was only a short span lasting 15 minutes... OK. Now for the 2 wonderful surprises. 1) I thought I was only meeting Amy for dinner but Kah Wan, Joel, Alekx and Jolene surprised me as well! Joel treated me to dinner while Kah Wan was nice enough to walk me home even though he was super tired! Thanks guys! 2) Amy and Jolene bought me a pair of BIRKS! Oh gosh, I've always seen birks as something that only my PARENTS will buy for me because they've the... spending power? According to Amy and Jolene, they were willing to splurge for today because they owed me last year's birthday and christmas present anyway so this present is worth presents from 3 events. It was really funny because I went to the store at Wheelock thinking I was helping Amy choose a design for herself, y...

E-I-G-H-T-E-E-N

I'm ACTUALLY 18 years old! I'll always remember how I used to think the age of 18 was "unreachable" and rather... old. Yet now, I'm 18 myself! This feeling is so similar to the one I had when I was 16 years old. With each "major" birthday, there are more and more things I can do, I guess the most obvious trivial matter being that I can watch M18 movies now the way people told me I could watch NC16 movies when I turned 16! :) Today, the One-Thirders were sooooooo fun and thoughtful. They planned 4 surprises for me within the school day, spreading it out such that at every break, I had to be blindfolded and be surprised yet again. All in all, they sang 3 songs for me throughout the day and had 4 types of cakes for me, what more, all of the cakes were my favourites! The biggest surprise was their getting somebody "unauthorized" to enter the school to give me a surprise! I was SHOCKED! haha. Thanks anyway for taking the risk for me! What you did wa...

Thank you!

Yesterday, my YA cell was sooo cool to bring me out for lunch, even though it was just at the nearby hawker stall where we ate chicken rice (3rd time in a row for me over the weekend). They got all the LSBC members eating at the same hawker centre as us to join in the Birthday Song so it seemed as if the whole hawker centre was singing the birthday song for me, it was really nice of them! Besides, the 3 roses they gave me have blossomed! Here's a picture of them, although with the flash they look like fake roses... The SUPER RED roses After attending the corporate prayer meeting as a cell, I went home to do some homework. It was later in the evening that Zhulong called me to say he wanted to borrow a drama serial from me. When he arrived 5 minutes later with Andrew and Joel Seah, they actually gave me this small red "prayer bear" "to remind me to pray more" in Zhulong's words. Aiyo so nice of them lah! Even though you embarrassed me by making me walk around ...

The 36-hour day camp

Image
From 31st March to 1st April, Saints Sports Club (SSC) had its Orientation cum Selection Camp for the JC1s where I was in charge of logistics with Yinmay, and the camp commandant was Bryan Pee with assistant Jiaxing (aka Justin). It's also the first camp I'm attending in full AND the first camp where the Ex-co actually has an identity, which is a phone strap (The gray thing that is hanging around Hippo's neck. The model so cute right ;) ) Anyhow, technically it was a 2 day 1 night camp, however, I say it was a 36-hour day camp for me and the whole Ex-co because we didn't get to sleep at all. Ok, so the guys and Wentong managed to clock in at most half an hour's worth of sleep, but for the other 5 girls in the Ex-co, we didn't sleep AT ALL. I still had my fun though. As a result of my not being attached to any group as a facilitator, during the Amazing Race on Saturday, I travelled around with Commandant Pee and Jiaxing, and laughed a WHOLE LOT despite the consta...
