Weekend Recap

Here's a quickie on one of my crazier weekends:- Friday One whole day of school ended at 2.45 with my rushing off to change for Sports Club's Windsurfing session 1 at the National Sailing Centre. It was after about 2 hours of real fun and half an hour of bathing and washing up that I found myself on the chartered bus back to Potong Pasir, panicking about whether I could get back home in time to reach church at 7pm. It proved unlikely because I REACHED home at 7pm. Then it was a mad rush to church to practise a song item and worship practice for the central equipping that was due to begin at 8pm. I did backup, sang my song item (of which my sister told me tonight, that my BAND LEADER said I did really well! She even said something about sounding like Sarah McLaughlan? YAY! The ultimate compliment I always want to hear is always from my band leader!), then went for prata supper. SLEEP. Saturday My morning began with breakfast with Doraemon, then I practised my piano and had lunch...

Morning discovery

I decided to watch tv while eating my breakfast just now when I stumbled onto Channel 8, which was showing chinese cartoons or programmes for kids from something like 8-11am. It just so happen that they were showing Doraemon at that time. Aiyo, Doraemon's so cute! Just look at him! *Sorry, didn't realize the picture will come out so big.* Anyhow, I wish MY hippo could talk to me the way Doraemon talks to 'xiao(3) siong(2)'. And with different kinds of magical instruments/machines, take me back in time or let me fly on a butterfly/dragonfly... (You see, today's half-hour episode was on how Doraemon and 'xiao siong' went back in time with this special remote control and also about how Doraemon let 'xiao siong' sit a dragonfly to fly about... I've also come to a conclusion that next time if I ever do have kids and once they're in kindergarten or something, I will let them watch Doraemon because I believe that it will help to improve their Chine...

The purpose of plays

I was just reading an article in the Review section of today's Straits Times entitled "Let's talk about racial differences" by Hong Xinyi and it reminded me of 2 things I recently learnt about in school... 1) Censorship. We discussed this topic in GP last week, in relation to the cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad that were published in several European newspapers and were followed with ensuing chaos. What struck me about this topic in this article are these words found in 2 paragraphs: "Given the choice between self-expression and maintaining a social equilibrium, a certain willingness to leave difficult, sensitive things about race and religion unsaid rather than a strident, unequivocal insistence on the concept of free speech is perhaps the more mature response. But where do we draw the line between restraint and running away from difficult realities?" 2) Theatrical plays. I just begun lessons on "Top Girls" by Caryl Churchill, a play that is focu...

15

15 is the number of rounds of Bingo Jien and I completed during Econs lecture today. After 8 rounds of it, we decided to modify the game to make it a little more challenging... play 2 rounds of Bingo at one go. My goodness, we took MUCH longer to finish it as compared to completing only 1 5-by-5 box. At the last round, we rushed through it in the fear that the lecture would actually end before we could complete the round... It was really fun. How my paper looked like at the end of the lecture. If you take time to look closely at it, you will see letters beside every 5-by-5 box? Well they stand for who won that particular round, so 'J' means Jien won, while 'L' means I won. 'D' means it was a draw, both of us "bingo-ed" at the same time. And, if you see 2 boxes linked together, it means we had a modified version of Bingo. Now, you must be wondering why in the whole wide world would we choose not to concentrate on what the lecturer is teaching us... WELL...

Mr Darcy!

Image
I just watched the latest movie version of "Pride and Prejudice" for the second time. Last night, I watched it with my family while just now, I watched it with Amy. Oh my gosh Mr Darcy is DREAMY! One line he said to Elizabeth in the movie, that is not in the book actually, "You have bewitched me body and soul. I love, I love, I LOVE you" Oh goodness gracious our hearts (Amy and mine) just melted... ;) Comparing the 2 dramatised versions of this famous Jane Austen novel that I've watched, one by BBC... This is the one that starred Colin Firth as Mr Darcy. Oh my gosh, coupled with his acting in the first and second "Bridget Jones' Diary", Colin Firth was declared as the most charming English man on screen! By me of course... ;) ...And the latest movie-version... ...I think they are both delightful in their own ways. BBC's version not only has, ahem, Colin Firth ;), it is also much more detailed and accurate in its recount of the famous novel. Whe...

One-Third identity

Image
Presenting... ...The very FIRST One-Third identity! (Sorry the photo's so blur) After everything was done, all 7 of us were walking around with this badge pinned to our ties. Quite embarrassing actually, but we all had to do it until our gang leader, who's our GP teacher, and our 'Danna', who's our PE teacher, saw our tags. In the mean time, where ever I went with the tag on, I used my wallet to cover it. It really was quite eye-catching. Either way, One-Third has an identity while TDT has, I think, 2 with 1 more up and coming! :)
