Yesterday, it was a completely lecture-free day for me. So I sat a long time in the dining hall for breakfast and slacked around in my room until 12, when I had to meet the other Singaporean Law students to go into Beeston. There in Beeston, we had lunch at Subway. Then we did a little stationary-, grocery- and all-other-necessities-shopping. I left the group afterwards because I wanted to get back to my room to skype with my dad and mum. Boy, it was tiring briskwalking back to FB carrying 2 thick pads of paper and a huge bottle of liquid washing detergent! When I reached FB and finally got into my room, I took off my jackets immediately because I was feeling SO hot! I think I'd done my exercise for the day:) After dinner, I met up with the people in my ninetwenty group to attend Equip, the weekly Friday meeting Christian Union (CU) meeting. I found out from Hannah (one of the two CU reps. the other one's called Justin) on our walk to the building where the meeting was taking p...

FIRSTS - Part II

First TRIP TO THE UNISEX TOILET: My room is very near to the fire exit, the pantry and the toilet - a good thing. But I realized that my toilet is a mixed one. So, my first time I went in after my parents and Richard had "deposited" me in Florence Boot (FB) Hall, I saw a guy's back towards me in one of the three cubicles in the toilet. He was peeing. Oh my goodness when I saw that, I quickly ran as quietly as possible into the furthest cubicle from him and closed the door on me. I really need to get used to seeing boys using the same toilet as me. However, I have been waking up early in the mornings so that I will be the first one in the toilet and shower, having the toilet to myself. The silence in the toilet, corridor and my own room can be quite deafening, but I'm trying very hard to get used to it. First SKYPE CONVERSATION WITH MY PARENTS: Yesterday afternoon (UK time, Singapore night time), I talked to my parents on Skype and it was an interesting experience that...

Firstly, I must apologize for this long leave of absence, but, I'm back to blogging!:) Here in Nottingham, it is my third day living in Florence Boot Hall and I have experienced many "firsts" First SEND-OFF AT THE AIRPORT: Thank you so much, to everybody who came to send me off. You may have had homework and readings and all kinds of other important things to do, but you all still came. Thank you so very much. To One-Third, I kept you waiting for so long as I moved from group to group, I'm so sorry. And to Jien, who talked to me for a really long time after I went into the terminals and waited to board the plane, thanks so much. First SIGHT OF DUBAI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT It's really such a busy airport! My parents and I didn't have time to hang around though, because we had to rush to the next gate to board our second plane that would take us to Birmingham. First WEEK IN THE UK I spent my first week with my cousin, Aileen, her husband, Richard and my nephew, J...

PASSED

I took my driving test today and passed! I got 10 demerit points, of which 6 was due to the fact that I was "road hogging", something I find amusing and quite cool - Hey, I'm a road hogger, don't mess around with me!:) I waited a good 2 hours before I could get my temporary license. During my wait, I made a new friend called Raymond. He was in the same "testing group" as me and he passed on his first try too! So we were just waiting together. It was funny how we started talking. We were sitting in the room before our test waiting for our testers to come "pick us up". It had begun to rain very heavily. He was sitting next to me. Then he suddenly turned towards me and asked, "How do you on your windscreen wiper?" Well. I guess he has never had the privilege of driving in the rain during his lessons. Me, on the other hand. Raining during my lesson is the norm. So from talking about how to switch on the windscreen wiper and our headlights (he...

4 days to go

SAVE ME I don't know what to bring to the UK. Yes, so I bring the essentials, the things that are necessary, but I find too many things essential and necessary! I've kind of settled the bags I'm bringing, the stuff toys too, save one (Should I bring my toy elephant?). But there are the other things: tops, bottoms (jeans, pants, track pants...), shoes (Oh my gosh this is a big headache), earrings (Yikes, another headache. How will I store them?)... I was just looking at my shoes:- The essentials: 1) Blue birks. 2) Red sandals. 3) Sneakers. 4) Track shoes. The questionable essentials: 1) Black pumps. 2) Black heels for future dinners (heard that there will be formal Hall dinners organized). 3) Brown kitten heels (for any other smart casual occasions). Then I look at other pairs of shoes and reasons I should bring them over pop into my head... Oh my goodness. I'm definitely excited about going to the UK. But the packing is not fun .

5 days to go

Yesterday, I had a good driving lesson, a great time with Amy in the afternoon and a delicious dinner with the Raman family. I started having great discomfort in my stomach yesterday that has slightly improved today, but I still get bouts of it. It tends to come in waves. Suddenly, I'd feel as if someone has reached into my stomach and has grabbed it real tight, twisting it, as if trying to pull my insides out. Then the headache came with discomfort in my body, I couldn't find any position in which I would be comfortable in for 5 minutes. It completely destroyed my appetite for lunch with Amy and the wonderful homecooked dinner with Pst Guna and his family. I felt so bad because my family left under the reason that I wasn't feeling well. Anyhow, in the afternoon, after having lunch at the nearby hawker centre with Amy, the two of us talked a little and watched some shows. We finished up the last episode of "Hana Yori Dango 2", then we watched the Korean movie enti...

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY JIEJIE!

Yesterday, it was my sister's birthday. As a family, we celebrated it on Sunday night with a special dinner at Il Lido, a restaurant on Sentosa. When we returned home, we then surprised her with a chocolate cake that Edmund specially got for her. On the actual day itself though, we didn't do anything special for her. And I didn't wish her "happy birthday", so, Happy Birthday Jiejie! It helps to know that I'll be back for your birthdays because your birthday is during my long summer break. So I don't need to worry about missing your birthday and feeling sad that I can't go for a special dinner with you and the family on your special day. All these years, thanks for being the decision-maker in the family when it comes to dinner/holiday destinations, and so much more. As the both of us grew older, our age gap seemed to narrow so that we have more things to talk about. I'm so proud to call you my sister, you know that? I feel incredibly blessed to have...

7 days to go

Ever since I got back from the US, I haven't had the chance to update the blog. Or rather I've been to lazy to do it. BUT, here I am updating! So. My week has been hectic in a relaxed sense. I have been meeting people, doing things I Need to do before I leave... such that my days are never completely free/slack. Yet, what with things to do every day, I still don't feel stressed or fatigued. That's why I say my week has been hectic in a relaxed sense. My schedule in general so you can get a better understanding of what I've been up to: Saturday (1st Sept) - Worship practice (Zombie playing the keyboard due to jetlag), had dinner with Wei Chuen & Limiin (the most wonderful couple-friends I could ask for). Sunday - After 2 services of keyboard-playing duty and lunch with the 19-year-olds, Eliz, Shu-En, Joanne and Kah Wan hung out at my house for awhile. Dinner with my Aunty's family at Kuriya (JAP FOOD! YUM YUM. Again, zombie having dinner due to jetlag). Mo...
