Under the excuse of "I'm starting work soon"

Image
I have gotten just enough of my dark eye rings and big eye bags, and I want to try makeup (e.g. concealer) to make it less obvious. And, I'm starting work soon - should try to look more professional by putting just a leeeettle bit of makeup, I think. Thus, I went shopping with Faith and Boon Yeow yesterday. Faith got all her makeup from The Face Shop, so I followed in her footsteps and got makeup from The Face Shop too. I'm now a member of The Face Shop! I bought the more basic makeup from the same place, save for the mascara from Guardian and the blusher brush from The Body Shop. So, some of the things I bought: I need to start practicing how to put on makeup for myself now:( And, one of the two main things I learnt yesterday is that I have 'combination skin' - my face looks dry, but actually inside it is very oily. And I get breakouts/pimples very easily, which is something I have noticed alot more now that I'm back in Singapore:( I also ordered a new pair of spec...

Yay for Proper Slacking

Yesterday, I stayed at home the entire day, just getting used to not needing to do any work. I read a little bit, played Ranch Rush on my iPhone ALOT, then proceeded to pack my closet in the afternoon. Left photo: Before. Right photo: After. Unfortunately, not so big a difference eh? haha. But I DID choose to get rid of a whole pile of clothes! I just have too many clothes... My maid, Miming, says I should open my own shop and sell my clothes:) Just when I was about done with packing my closet, Jon Cheong called me from Nottingham! He had received my surprise mail to him... a big, cuddly bear: I actually bought it off eBay from the Peace Hospice eBay store about 2 weeks ago. At that time, Jon Cheong was feeling a bit depressed and he was just commenting that he wished John Teng and I were still there in Nottingham so he could hang out with us. And he missed my big stuff toy dog, named Dylan the Dog. So. I decided to go on eBay and find a nice, relatively cheaper, stuff toy for him, and...

So, Bar A exams are over!

My last paper, Company Law, ended at 8pm on Friday, 12 November. I then headed to Uncle KK's house for cell group meeting, which ended quite late. On Saturday, it was a looong day which started with me waking up at 5:30am. We had to be in church to get the bus to the Padang by 6:45am. We were heading to the Padang because it was the start and end point of the I Love Singapore Walk. We thank God for wonderful, albeit really hot, weather, and a good turnout. (Right picture: That is the Love Singapore committee on stage with guest-of-honour, Prof S Jayakumar) Unfortunately, a few of my cell group friends pulled out of the walk at the last minute and so there were only a few of us left who actually went for the walk. It was still fun though, not counting the fact that we had to walk the approximately 3km route REALLY slowly because the crowd was moving at a remarkably slow pace. We tried to overtake people whenever we could, and finished the walk in under one and half hours, I think. I...

Birthdays and Parties

I finished my fourth exam today, out of the five exams I need to do for Bar A. The fifth, final, last one is on Friday - Company Law... Yikes. Anyway, because my brain is pretty much 'fried' from today's exam, I have decided to give myself a (rather undeserved if you ask me) break. Tomorrow, I start the final sprint to the last exam, and freedom from exams! I've celebrated a few birthdays in the past few weeks. On 23 October, it was my father's birthday. We usually make it a point to eat dinner at a restaurant of the birthday boy/girl's choice. When it is my dad's birthday, it is most definitely an Indian restaurant. However, this year, we had a simple 'takeout' dinner at home. The proper Indian birthday family dinner has been postponed. But I'm sure it will take place before the year ends. I thank God for blessing me with the most wonderful father I respect and love:) On 5 November, it was a public holiday - Deepavali. My parents had an 'Ope...

Learn with me: Res Gestae

So I've got two exams down - land law and constitutional law. Today, I've criminal law. Wednesday, I've evidence law. Friday, I've company law. Then, I fully intend to become a couch-potato-homebody-slacker. On my mealtime breaks I have been listing out drama serials, Japanese and Korean ones, to watch after my exams are over - CAN'T WAIT. ANYWAY, I'm now working on my exam notes for Wednesday's evidence law paper. And I think it's time you learn something with me, since you're reading my blog. The Latin term: Res Gestae This is what the legal dictionary has to say about it: '[Latin, Things done.] Secondhand statements considered trustworthy for the purpose of admission as evidence in a lawsuit when repeated by a witness because they were made spontaneously and concurrently with an event. Res gestae describes a common-law doctrine governing testimony. Under the Hearsay rule, a court normally refuses to admit as evidence statements that a witness...
