Jiejie Aileen's wedding

Image
Jiejie Aileen got married this afternoon and it was a small wedding, which was cosy and beautiful in its little ways. Besides attending the wedding as a guest, I also sang with my sister while my cousin, Cynthia, played the keyboard. Apparently the guests enjoyed it so much, and at my parents request, the newlyweds asked my sister to sing again. So the 3 of us trooped up to perform the song a second time. We took a photo together, just the 3 of us, but it was with my uncle's camera so I can't post it up yet. However we all had some brown colour on us (from our clothes) so it was quite... cool (I can't think of another word right now)? We were joking that we could be the next S.H.E., except that we will have to be S.L.C. or something:) Here are 3 photos my brother took with his camera: the blissful bride and groom at the recessional JACK (my handsome, smart nephew)! He looks unhappy here though, but when he smiles he's rather photogenic! :) the processional. Notice the s...

Cell bonding-Steamboat dinner!

Image
We had steamboat for dinner as part of cell bonding at my house just now, sharing a lot of good food (proudly bought by Eugene and I at Cold Storage) and great laughs. Samuel brought both of the pots and electric stoves, which played a key role in making this whole thing successful because without the pots and electric stoves, the steamboats wouldn't have materialized! Professional layout of our 'dining table'! It was an alfresco affair, naturally. Ben and Lydia provided the nice-looking plates, disposable chopsticks and strainers. Then there was Zhulong, the waiter cum trash collector. Zhulong the waiter, offering veggies to us Zhulong the trash collector Besides the most helpful Zhulong, the guys were also immensely helpful. I must emphasize that the 18year old guys (Zhulong included) are the most helpful bunch ever. At every cell bonding I've ever attended from Primary 6 until now, the guys have always been doing most of the cooking, cleaning up, carrying of stuff h...

Service Learning Day - 26th July 06

After close to 4 hours of editing and 6 hours of filming (clips of the time we spent at the student care centre as a class), here is the video! Again, photos can be viewed via the link on the sidebar. Do let me know what you think of the video! I admit it can be much better, because this morning while brushing my teeth I was just thinking of other things I could have done in this video, but I'm too lazy to make the changes so please make do with this low standard video! :) Please let me know of your views on this video, it's my baby! ;)

Overflow

Talk about having a vicious cycle. Envision yourself as an inflatable bag. Something keeps pouring thick, viscuous liquid into it until the bag is heavy and is on the point of breaking. However, you remain strong on the outside, withstanding the pressure until it is too much for you and the liquid overflows. That overflow was my tears last night. And then after it overflows, you find yourself a little more calm, with less pressure and turmoil inside you. However that something just keeps on pouring that annoyingly thick and viscuous liquid into your bag until, once again, you reach maximum point and it overflows once again. So I guess after last night's breaking point, I'm feeling a little better, but it's slowly building up inside me again. We'll just have to see when is the next time, because the cycles are getting shorter and shorter. "Four more months, Lynn." So my Math tutor said as I was leaving her house to go home last night, hungry and tired.

Sunday lifestyle

Top 3 articles I found interesting in today's lifestyle section of The Straits Times newspaper: 1) "When wombs become tombs" This article is on how most pregnant women struggle with the choice of abortion when they find out their children will have Down's Syndrome when born. The writer is ultimately trying to convince people to give their children a chance to live and not just abort it without any second thoughts. Read it! 2) Something about how the "summer boys" are gone, can't really remember the title now, but it's on the same page as "When wombs become tombs". The sarcasm and irony in this passage screams out at you, especially if you're familiar with these literary devices, as you read this short article. It is in an American context because the writer is stationed in America, but it is so poignant. You shouldn't miss it for the world! 3) An interview with Audrey Niffeneger I loved her book 'The Time Traveler's Wife...

Sinful, satisfying Saturday

Image
We had another TDT outing today that started with Macs breakfast and study session in the morning before travelling down to Orchard for some shopping! I came back with quite a loot which were all rather worth it. So I'm very happy because it was a productive shopping trip not only for me, but for the whole of TDT! On the train to town. Oh my my... my face is so big in the picture. A break was well deserved when we stepped into Starbucks to have lunch, or high tea, because it was already 2pm. I had the pasta salad, which was absolutely yummy! While Jien had a potato salad And Tina had a bagel. I had to leave first because I had to go for church, leaving them to shop some more. Now , I need to go study.

Announcing the new arrival!

Image
After waiting for a long time for the "right time" to get a new keyboard, the time has finally come because the church has gotten a new keyboard so it's provided me with a great reason to get a new keyboard as well (Being that if we got the same keyboard as the church's, I would be able to familiarize myself with the keyboard much, much faster since I could experiment and play around with it at home). We've finally got a synthesizer to replace the old, spoilt one. YAY! This Yamaha keyboard is so new and nice, it's exciting just to look at it;) Take another look! From another angle:) Then there's the model name on the keyboard... A little bit blur hor ... Oh well. Now I just have to find the time to play around with it, to read the manual etc. Can't wait to discover new stuff about it!

Today's newspaper

On The Straits Times main section today, the article announcing Mr Lim Kim San's death dominated two-thirds of it. I was surprised and sad when I read the headlines and it suddenly hit me even harder that the great men in Singapore do grow old and they DO die (As silly as it sounds). It's not like I know him personally or have had the privilege to meet up with him before, but I've studied him in elective geog (or some subject in secondary school)! I admire him for what he has done for Singapore, he pushed for the HDB flats! Besides that, on the third page of the same section, they did a "closure" article on the Zidane headbutt issue, which I found quite amusing. For those who are unaware, both Zidane and the Materazzi person got fined and banned from 4 games and 3 games respectively. The amusing thing is that Zidane has resigned from football so the ban has no effect on him whatsoever. Hence he suggested he do 3 days of community service with children instead, whi...

Stacked

Image
Every time my mother orders a "clean up" of my room, I find my beloved stuffed toys crammed into the smallest places of my room, places that will keep them safe from any dust or sunlight (which will make their colours fade). Just look at last year when I took this photo in August, which means my mum must have packed my room some time then... Last year in August This year, an ant attack on my bottle of mosturizer triggered today's cleanup. Guess what happened to my toys... All stacked! Can you spot the hippos? That was the upper shelf. Take a look at the lower shelf: Again, spot the hippos! So my poor toys have been squeezed even further into a corner of my room. They are the less privileged. The most important toy in Lynn Ern's world though, is still positioned nicely in her spot, the spot for the VVIP (Or should it be VVIT=Very very important toy). Tadah! On my study table! The most accessible places for hugs and smiles! (One day I must take a photo of her that is mo...

New toy

Today I played the new keyboard in church! It was so exciting because it's brand new! I'm still trying to get used to the feeling of the keys and all, but it's just as exciting as ever! And now it's quite confirmed that my dad's going to buy the same keyboard for my sister and I for our personal use! I'm looking forward to it because when I'm bored or need to destress, I can go play/fiddle around with the keyboard and if I find anything new/exciting to do with the keyboard, I can go share it with the other church keyboardists so we can use it together! YAY! :) If I get the chance, I will take a photo of the new keyboard to show you guys. Oh, it's a Yamaha CP300. :)

A cry-ey week

One-Third experienced many tearful breakdowns this week as we got back our results from BT2, or rather what's left of it. Although a few of us cried due to other reasons as well. Basically, majority of One-Third were very emotional this week. HOWEVER. The week has come to an end and even as we begin our quest to become cool nerds (At least me and Jien have come to that agreement already), I really hope and pray that things will start looking up. We really need positivity and bright, fun moments to lighten us up! I went home with Jien today and it was just so good talking to her! We still have yet to finish our conversation though! Hopefully we both remember where we stopped!

Really appreciate it!

Today, my brother graciously fetched me to school! He could book out last night and only had to book in later tonight so he had a free day. When he reached home last night, I asked if he could fetch me to school the next day because my parents were away in Kalimantan so I had to take the train to school until Thursday. He agreed! This morning however, he still had not woken up at 6.30am when I usually left the house at 6.40 am. So I went up to his room and woke him up, asking if he still was up to fetching me to school because I could still go on my own if he just wanted to sleep on. But he woke up, brushed up and fetched me to school! Aiyo... Thanks ah gege! All my classmates say you're very sweet. I say you're the most gracious and patient brother ever! :)

Jien's 18th birthday Video

Here's the video I spent EIGHT WHOLE hours doing, and One-Third spent about 3 hours filming. All for TAI JIEN JIEN! haha. I'm glad she loves it sooooo much. Makes everything worthwhile! Happy birthday Jien! This is an extension of the original video, which features "behind the scenes" shots. It's not hilarious, but funny/interesting enough! ;) In the meantime, hope you enjoy it! Please leave your comments, preferable nice ones! :)

Happy 18th Jien!

YAY! You're FINALLY 18! And I can FINALLY get more sleep! ;) I'm so glad you're proud of the video and you want to keep watching it over and over. You were so proud of it you even played it during the surprise birthday party just now. I was VERY honoured, although the video had many unglam shots of One-Third:) Now, when I'm in a FANTASTIC mood, I'll create a short video on the NG shots or never-seen-before footage during the exclusive filming of your birthday video. For the record, I spent 7.30pm-12am editing Tuesday night, 5-5.50pm editing Wednesday evening and 8.30pm-12am Wednesday night editing, and doing the final touches. I almost died of a panic attack when the computer hanged Wednesday night at about 9+, 10. The whole sequence was GONE so I had to arrange everything all over again! Thank God Sheryl stayed over so she kept me calm and helped me find good photos to put into the video. Video editing may be so very satisfying at the end of the day, but the proc...
