Recap Time

Image
I've been kept very busy with church commitments, attending classes, doing my readings and research, and making trips to the library (I know how to work the photocopying machine so well now, I can become one of those photocopying aunties). On a positive note, this busy-ness keeps me on my toes and makes me use all available time efficiently. You must admit that having too much free time can increase the likelihood of procrastination because you keep thinking you still have a lot of time. On a not-so-positive note, it's stressing me out and robbing me of energy. I'm always tired! But, please, not to worry (if you're worrying)! I'm still coping well with everything! Healthy, relatively alert (alert enough to absorb all my readings and research), positive, relatively stable emotionally, stable spiritually:) Ok, the recap begins, and I'll be as quick as I can and not be longwinded: Monday, 23 Nov I went to the library in between Trusts lecture and Japanese class. Af...

Is it really that cold outside? RIGHT NOW?!

09/10 Small Group Chapters - May Sum!

Image
Yesterday night, we had a cell bonding instead of the usual meeting. We went for a Chinese Buffet at a Chinese restaurant called May Sum, which is in the city centre. I wish we had a bigger turnout, but even if it was only 6 of us, we had a great time! In particular, Pelumi and John Gell both tried salmon sushi for their first time! Pelumi went first. Note John's look of apprehension as Pelumi tried to pick up the sushi with chopsticks. I was IMMENSELY proud of them:D (And I really want to have some GOOOOD authentic Japanese food. Sigh) Other photos! I've a GRRRREAT small group, and I'm so thankful to God for that!

I AGREE: WITH ALL MY HEART

As part of my regular fodder of gossip, I frequent this website for updates on what is going on in the Kpop world. It's basically something I read when I want to take a quick break from the (never ending) law readings. Also, if you've been following my blog (and for that I thank you! Please leave comments to say hi:)), you may be aware that I'm watching a Korean drama serial currently airing in Korea. It's called "You're Beautiful". The 16th, and final, episode airs today. (If you didn't read my entry on the drama serial, click here .) I was REALLY HAPPY when I read this article . Here is a part of the article, with the very important bit in bold: "SBS You're Beautiful's viewers voted on which couple they want to see come together on the show. The winning couple was Go Minam (Park Shin Hye) and Kang Shinwoo (Jung Yong Hwa). The two received 48.1% of the votes which is quite a lot. That equals 5,563 votes! Then came Go Minam and Hwang Tae...

Sunday - not sunny at all

Image
It has been a cold, gloomy, rainy day. I had a good dinner though! Hz and I call it "John's soup", because we don't know its proper name:) We ate this over 2 nights. Last night, we just had this soup with rice. Tonight hz also steamed egg, which was super tasty because she added in mince meat, crabstick, sausage AND mushrooms! It's a pity I forgot to take a photo of it before we finished the whole bowl! BUT, BEFORE DINNER, I was attempting to do some reading in preparation for one of the 12-page essays due on 12 January 2010. I felt SO restless and 'sian', it was really annoying! I was also looking forward to dinner because dinner time is the best chance for me to slack without having to feel guilty or bad about it afterwards. Anyhow, at 3:15pm, I thought it was dinner time. But, it was far from dinner time. So I closed my laptop and sat Hippo on top of it. As an aside, I skyped with my parents yesterday, and my dad mentioned that Hippo has really been fea...

I think I'm an Introvert

A friend showed me this article that I find is REALLY interesting: "CARING FOR YOUR INTROVERT Do you know someone who needs hours alone every day? Who loves quiet conversations about feelings or ideas, and can give a dynamite presentation to a big audience, but seems awkward in groups and maladroit at small talk? Who has to be dragged to parties and then needs the rest of the day to recuperate? Who growls or scowls or grunts or winces when accosted with pleasantries by people who are just trying to be nice? If so, do you tell this person he is "too serious," or ask if he is okay? Regard him as aloof, arrogant, rude? Redouble your efforts to draw him out? If you answered yes to these questions, chances are that you have an introvert on your hands—and that you aren't caring for him properly. Science has learned a good deal in recent years about the habits and requirements of introverts. It has even learned, by means of brain scans, that introverts process information ...

Foundations of International Criminal Law (ICL) Coursework Prep begins

I've decided on my coursework topic for ICL. So I've started on research. I was just looking at the cases and situations of the International Criminal Court and, out of curiosity, tried to find out if Singapore had acceded to the Rome Statute, which establishes the International Criminal Court. I discovered that Singapore has NOT acceded to the Rome Statute! According to the website : "31 Dec 2005 As of September 2002, it was not likely that Singapore would ratify in the near future. Political will in support of the ICC seemed to exist, but their position was unclear. Singapore did not participate in the Preparatory Commission." Naive me thought Singapore would be all for impunity and justice for victims of wars and conflicts! But of course, there definitely are many political consequences that come out of it and the Singapore government definitely has good reasons for not acceding to the Statute.

The Weekend is Here!

Image
Yesterday night, I met Tzen and Trang for dinner. All three of us stay in Beeston, and really close by each other. So, the last time round, they came over to my house for steamboat. Yesterday, we went to Trang's house, where she cooked a delicious Hungarian dish for us! Unfortunately, I cannot remember what it is called... Anyhow, photos! Trang, working her cooking magic in the kitchen: While waiting for the food: Taking photos of the very delicious end product! It consists of potato, eggs, Spanish sausages (she couldn't find Hungarian sausages here), cheese and sour cream. And in continuing with the good meals I've been getting this year, and this weekend, I had hz's cooking for dinner tonight and it was really good! I think the two of us stuffed ourselves silly with teriyaki-like chicken and fried egg with tomato! Also, as a good start to this weekend, hz and I did some cleaning of the house! Thanks to hz, the toilet is sparkling white now (enhanced by...

nice sad song

Image
Music Playlist at MixPod.com This song is from the OST of the Korean drama serial, "You're Beautiful". It's currently airing in Korea and the last 2 of its 16 episodes will be shown next week. I think that this song is really sad. Well, most of the songs in a Korean drama serial OST would be quite sad/emo/'mopey'. So it is the same with this song. I find it very catchy though. And it is sung by the lead actor of the show. Also, if you listen carefully, you can hear this electric-piano-ish sound that sounds like a mix of an 'atmospheric' sound and a bell-ish sound, which lends a dreamy, soothing feeling to the song... Which I like! Oh and to top things off, it is a song that features the piano!:) Translation of the lyrics below (from soompi.com): What should I do? All I can do is gaze at you I can't even extend you a short greeting My achingly cold hand, don't hold it Now I have to let you go What should I do? You grow further away My breast fi...

How do you eat an orange without getting juice all over your hands? My mouth was itchy yesterday afternoon, so I decided to cut an apple, and try cutting an orange to bring up to my room to munch on as I did my readings for my Legal Issues in Health Care seminar coming up tomorrow. I'm quite happy with how I managed to cut up the orange relatively cleanly, without creating a big mess with the juice and all. How do you eat your oranges as cleanly as possible? It's only 3:45pm? I thought it was already 6pm! From where I sit at my study table in my room, I open the curtains a tiny bit to let some light come in. I was just getting tired of reading anymore and I thought it was already past 5 and I should start preparing for small group and stuff. But my heart completely dropped when I looked at the clock and saw that it was only 3:45. Reminder: In the UK, do not determine the time of the day by looking at the amount of sunlight available. I absolutely LOVE receiving snail mail Yeste...

MSS Notts Games

Image
Today, hz and I were involved as volunteers for the annual Malaysian-Singaporean Society (MSS) Notts games. For this event, other Singaporeans from various UK universities come to Nottingham to participate in various types of games. This year, we had, amongst other things, basketball, netball, football, touch rugby, mahjong, bridge, poker, and adventure games (think station games). I was quite amused with the fact that we had a "mahjong competition": Hz and I were station masters, along with other volunteers from our uni: In other photos taken to occupy the time: The photo on the left is of the 2 committee members in charge of this well-planned game, Jia Wei and Marilyn: A photo of the basketball court in the sports centre filling up with participants who had come to Nottingham from other parts of the UK: The aim of the adventure games is to give visiting students a chance to "tour" our beautiful main campus. Hz and I were stationed at the Trent Building, with its s...
