FOUND IT! (And small group)

Image
Firstly, before I tell you about small group meeting tonight, I'm very happy to say that I've found this song I've been looking for for a really long time! I first heard this version of "Make it with you" (originally by Bread) on the Korean show, "We Got Married". This version is actually sung by Singapore's very own Olivia Ong! It's really soothing and nice. Play it while you read this entry!:) I actually just got back from small group meeting. We ended really early tonight because there only were four of us! We had a good time talking though, with subjects consisting of our future, what are we going to do after graduation, what we do in our own "lines" of work and study, how Singapore has capital punishment and fines and bans chewing gum... We may not have had a proper meeting, and there may only have been four of us, but I'm really glad I went down tonight! Oh, before we left, we took two shots of Kieran and Rachel - my fantastic...

Post-Japanese Listening Exam

The listening exam was pass-able! Now it's just a matter of how well I passed - and I really want to pass with flying colours of such a large variety that you cannot begin to count the number of colours you can see. After the exam, I was talking to a classmate, whose Japanese is really good. To the more difficult questions, she said her answer and what she heard and it just clicked. Like, WHY DIDN'T I HEAR THAT?! So, I think I've confirmed about 2 marks' worth of mistakes. It'd be the greatest thing ever, in the course of my learning Japanese, if I got everything else correct. Also, I had an enjoyable lunch at Portland Building with one of the Year 1s after the exam. So I'm back, full, satisfied and relatively happy. All ready to start the afternoon of studying. がんばっています!(Something like, "I am trying my best (加油-ing)!", I think. Do correct me if I'm wrong:))

Pre-Japanese Listening Exam

Ok, I'm going to start looking through the million and one adjectives and verbs that I should know by now, so that during the listening exam at 11am today, I will be able to understand what the voices are saying. Then maybe I should dig my ears? Right. I will stay calm. It's just 45 minutes! Besides, I'm still more worried about my Japanese Oral exam on 12 May as compared to this listening exam today. Okok... リんさん べんきょうをして ください! (I just told myself to go and study)

Happy Fingers on a Special Sunday

Today is a Sunday, but it didn't feel like a Sunday to me. When I woke up, an sms from one of the Singaporean Year 1 girls came in. She needed someone to talk to and was hoping to talk to a Christian girl. So I said that she could most definitely have me as a listening ear. I put in about an hour's worth of studying before she came. Before I knew it, it was time to get ready to head down to church. It was my first time on worship duty today, playing the 2nd keyboard. I had to be in church by 4:30pm. We practised and took time to pray before the service began at 6:30pm. I was rather nervous initially, but very glad they rostered me on the 2nd keyboard instead of plonking me in the 1st keyboard spot. Tonight's service was called something like "An Extended Night of Worship". For my church friends back home in Singapore, just think of Church Camp Holy Spirit Night. It was a little something like that. Basically it was just a night where the focus was solely on praisi...

Miss R Reporting Again

Random #1: Happy-feel-good song Play this song while you read my entry. Let it be happy background music! I chose one where the person has kindly put in the lyrics that have been translated into English. It's a really cute song. You can find it in the Boys Over Flowers OST 2. Random #2: 532 posts This is actually my 533rd post in this blog, I can't believe I've blogged over 500 posts! How long more before I reach a thousand, you think? I must remember to have a big celebration when I do reach 1000 posts. Random #3: Year 3 modules I've decided on my modules for next year! In the autumn semester, I'll be taking Law of Trusts (compulsory year long module), Family Law, Foundations of International Criminal Law, Legal Issues in Health Care, and Japanese Stage 2a. In the spring semester, I'll be taking Law of Trusts, Mental Health Law & Policy, Japanese Stage 2b and I'll have to do a 10-credit Legal Research Paper (18 pages). My goodness, I'm actually grad...

Random #1: SUMMER HAS COME EARLY! The weather these few days have been AWESOME. After Monday lectures, Po Yew, Janice and I made a quick trip to the Millenium Gardens just next to Law School to take photos. The sky is so blue, the sun is so bright, the grass is so green, the flowers are in full bloom... Forget about jackets. In Po Yew's words, which he said very happily, "The girls are wearing nothing!" Girls are walking around in mini skirts sans stockings and in spaghetti tops. Many people are now lounging around on grass patches too. I look out of my room window to see a group of people on the grass. And they actually brought out their computer screen from their room! Random #2: DINNER TIME FEELS LIKE LUNCH TIME Days are getting longer now. At 7pm, it feels like it's still 4pm. Get this, I took this photo at 7pm. Random #3: SMALL GROUP OUTING I actually just got back from a small group outing to the bowling alley, which also had a bar and a game arcade. A lot of pe...

I am Lynn Ern, with bangs/fringe

Now that I've been back in Nottingham for a week, I've met up with all my friends I "left behind" in Nottingham when I went back to Singapore during the Easter break. With most people I've met, they commented on my hair and said they wouldn't be able to recognise me on the street if I hadn't called out to them first. I hope it's a good thing that they couldn't recognise me. And not that I look all weird now with a fringe and longer hair. After church today, I had dimsum lunch with John, Angie, PY, Ivan, Jon Cheong and Antonio. It was a very impromptu thing, with Angie calling me midway through service. I didn't pick up. So she texted me to ask if I wanted to have dimsum with them. OF COURSE I WANTED DIMSUM:) It was a very good lunch, with great company! Now, should I go to London this Saturday (25 April) for Singapore Day? Note, my first exam is in 32 days' time. But, this could be the one and only Singapore Day held in the UK for the next ...

13 hours of uninterrupted sleep

Image
I found this photo a few weeks back while surfing the internet: I've seen many reports about how the cast of Boys Over Flowers were really pushing themselves as they rushed to complete filming for the show. They would even miss meals just to catch up on some sleep. Anyhow, I thought I'd post this photo because I was oh-so-sleepy yesterday. At 9pm, I finally allowed myself to submit to the power of the bed. I can confidently say that the moment my head hit the pillow, I was completely "knocked out". I slept so well and only woke up at 9am today when my alarm went off. I switched off the alarm and allowed myself to sleep another hour, finally waking up at 10am. My nose is still a little stuffy. But I'm very alert, and I'm very thankful that I managed to get such good sleep last night. It's time to work!

Easter trip to Singapore: Recap Part 2

Image
On Wednesday, I finally had the dimsum I was craving for. My dad let me, my mum and my brother, join him in his lunch appointment with a few other people. We had dimsum at Jumbo Seafood Restaurant in Serangoon, and it was delicious! I was very satisfied. I must take this time to thank my dad and mum for making time for me, doing whatever I wished to do. If I told my dad I wanted dimsum, he'll "grant" me my wish, put aside things for the moment and just bring me out for lunch. And when I made the very last-minute decision to have a Chua and Tan family gathering, my parents helped me out a greatgreat deal. My dad booked the lunch venue for the Chua family, while my mum roped in two other aunties from the Tan family to help plan the gathering. Not forgetting the important financial aspect that they covered. Thank you, daddy and mummy! On Thursday, I met Joanne, Amy and Jolene for dinner. Initially, we intended to have dinner at Aston's in Cathay. But the queue was just t...

Easter trip to Singapore: Recap Part 1

Image
Now that I'm back in Nottingham, trying very hard to keep awake until it's a decent time to go to bed so as to overcome jetlag quicker, I decided to update about my 2-week stay in Singapore. I've broken it into 2 parts so that each entry wouldn't have too many photos. My fantastic brother was really helpful in leaving his class early to pick me up from the airport on the afternoon of 30th March, Monday. I arrived much earlier than expected because of a last minute decision to take the earlier flight from London-Heathrow. On Wednesday, I met Zhulong for lunch and a movie in town. We watched "Confessions of a Shopholic". A good chick flick - it turned out better than I expected! I knew it would definitely be a feel-good movie, but I did not expect myself to laugh that much during the movie. It really was quite funny. I recommend this movie to anyone who wants a good movie that doesn't require much concentration/analysis, since it's just a chick flick. On...
