Looking Back 2: Spots of School Life plus Tzen's 21st

Image
Spots of School Life - 23rd Feb, Mon; 24th Feb, Tues On Monday, I went to the Self-Access Centre at the Language Centre to do a few listening exercises that was set as homework for my Japanese class. There, I met Yoyo and Annie, two Hong Kong-ers who used to be in the same group as me last semester. This semester, because of timetable clashes, I had to change to a new group. It was nice having lunch with them and having a catch-up session. On Tuesday, I met Angie for lunch as we had a two hour break before our next lecture. John joined us later and we were just chatting about random things. Then John pointed out that we had matching watches - same shape, similar design, black straps. We'd actually realised it quite awhile back but we never got round to taking a photo of it. So, here are two photos! I took one of Angie first because she was the photographer (I caught her off guard): Tzen's 21st - 24th Feb, Tues Tzen turned 21 on Tuesday and I "booked" her late...

Looking Back 1: VDay plus Impact Houseparty

Image
VDay: Girls' Night Out - 14th Feb, Sat My small group friends and I decided to have a girls' night out at my small group leader's house on one condition: no boys allowed! That night, I brought grapes and strawberries that were packaged in a heart-shaped box (Sainsbury's money-making method for people like me who are so taken by packaging). Hannah brought cupcakes that she'd baked by herself during the day. We also had loads of pizza between the 5 of us, and then we watched "How to lose a guy in 10 days". I must say, I've watched this movie soooo many times but I still enjoy it! Impact Houseparty in Cefn Lea, Wales - 20th-22nd Feb, Fri-Sun When I look back on this weekend, I cannot say with a fantastically great amount of enthusiasm that it was the most amazing weekend. But, I choose to look to the positive side of it all and I really am sososo grateful to God for coming to meet me there. I may not have encountered immense warmth and acceptance from my ...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MUMMY!

Dear Mummy, You've been a wonderful mother and I am most blessed to be your daughter! Hope you had a wonderful day on your birthday! I will send to you your birthday present by this weekend:)

Dinner Show

When I have my dinner by myself in my room, I usually put on a video to watch as I eat. Yesterday night, I watched one episode from the Taiwanese variety show "康熙来了 (kang(1) xi(1) lai(2) le(4))". Tonight, I watched the next episode, which was a continuation from the episode I watched last night. I found it SO interesting I just wanted to post it here. It's 2 episodes of 3 well-known judges 'assessing' the performances of the final 8 contestants of a talent show called "超级星光大道 (chao(1) ji(2) xing(1) guang(1) da(4) dao(4)). The 3 judges are from another talent show (I wasn't able to catch its name). The comments they gave after each performance were really interesting, technical, and I'm sure very helpful to the contestants. On top of all that, I really like the 2 hosts of 康熙来了, especially the girl, they are JUST HILARIOUS. If you understand Mandarin and you are 'into' singing, I HIGHLY recommend that you watch these 2 episodes. If you understa...

Midweek Post

I got back from school today and received a few mails! One was the sustain pedal I bought online from eBay, a letter from Trang, one envelope containing contact lens and bubble tea straws from my mum, and a letter from church about this weekend's trip! I was really happy opening up all these envelopes:) "Contact lens?!" you must be thinking... Something like 2 weeks back, I carelessly washed the left side of my contact lens down the sink:( So I emailed my mum to call my optician back home in Singapore to see if it was possible to just make a new left side of my contact lens. He said he could, so my mum ordered a new left side for me and said she'd send it over when it was ready. In the meantime, I've been wearing the left side of my older pair of contact lens together with the right side of my newer pair of contact lens (I use permanent contact lens because I've been told that my eyeballs are too small to use disposable contact lens. It will not be healthy as ...

Receiving Presents

Image
Presents from boys? Well, technically yes. But before you think they are Valentine's Day gifts to profess their love for me, think again. Yesterday evening, I received a DHL package - a friend had ordered a football jersey when Liverpool was having this major sale on their website. He had it delivered to my place. Then, this morning, I received a box - my brother's new toy. Again, he had it delivered to me. Now this 'present' was for me: a Yamaha keyboard! My cell group mate passed me his brother's old keyboard because his brother didn't want it anymore. It's an ancient keyboard from Yamaha that has since been discontinued. However, it is very light and quite portable as it only has 49 keys ('Full' keyboard has 61 keys). It has a built-in speaker and the piano sound is bearable. One thing though, I don't think a sustain pedal can be plugged into it. But I'm still very excited and happy about this new keyboard! Now there's just the proble...

Too good to be true

From the Straits Times (I miss reading the newspaper): " Changes to law practice LAW Minister K Shanmugam on Friday announced key changes to requirements to practise law in Singapore, which among others will see the scrapping of the Diploma in Singapore Law course. Overseas law students from approved universities graduating from this year will no longer have to do the year-long conversion course when they return. This current requirement will be replaced by a new Part A Bar examination. These graduates may attend an optional three month course to prepare for the exam. These and other moves could boost the supply of lawyers by some 70 per cent in two years, said Mr Shanmugam. Following the Part A exam, overseas graduates will have to undergo a revamped practical course like their Singapore counterparts and then pass a Part B Bar exam. The revamped course will start next year. Also overseas graduates with a Second Lower Honours degree will be allowed to apply to practise after the B...

SHOCKING DISCOVERY OF THE DAY

I just discovered that my band leader from LSBC and his wife have given birth!! I was just blog surfing and stumbled across her blog. And saw photos of the baby. And registered the baby's name with photos of the baby I saw in, I think, Limiin, Lydia and Faith's blogs. THEN I REALISED WHOSE BABY WAS THAT. And it made me realise how much I'm NOT in touch with things that are going on back in Singapore. So, please, when I go back in Easter, after I respond surprised as to something you just told me, don't ask me, "YOU DON'T KNOW MEH?" That will just be a test of my patience that I don't appreciate. BECAUSE I REALLY DON'T KNOW. I'M HERE IN NOTTINGHAM, REMEMBER THAT.

catching up

Today in church, they showed the most random video clip of this gigantic snowball being rolled along by people in this big field that was completely covered by snow. It was just too cute and funny. And it was also a sign of how wondrous the heavy snowfall was for each and every person living here in Nottingham. We all want more of the "wonderful white stuff", as described by one of the elders in the church. Anyway, on Wednesday (4 Feb), I woke up and looked out the window to see the snow melting away and the green grass starting to show again. I felt sad, but I knew that this snow was never meant to last long anyway. I just thank God I had Monday's experience. On Thursday (5 Feb), I woke up, looked out the window, and was shocked to see everything all white again (See photos below: 4 Feb on the left, 5 Feb on the right)! It did not snow as much on Thursday, just a little bit more. But for the rest of the day, we were all trudging around in the snow. Hong Zhen's and J...

Magical Christmas 2009 has come 11 months early

Image
It has been snowing most of today, and everything is covered in snow - a beautiful, magical, pretty sight! It really is unbelievable how much snow there now is in Nottingham. Because it's Nottingham! It never snows in Nottingham, at least not for many many years past! Even in London, I heard that it's snowing so much that Heathrow airport was closed, train and tube services were stopped, SCHOOL LESSONS WERE CANCELLED! Why can't we have classes cancelled over here?! When I first woke up, I knew it would snow at certain points of today (but I didn't expect THIS much snow!). First shot of the day: Then the first of today's many snowfalls began at about 9plus in the morning. Here are 2 photos of the snow that collected on my windowsill: Another 'boliao' video of the snow falling: Before I knew it, it was time to go to school for lectures. After my 2 back-to-back lectures, I walked back with John and Po Yew. But, before we headed out of school, we went to the Dow...
