HAPPY BIRTHDAY(In advance) Tina!

Image
I rushed home from school and then rushed out again to meet Jien at Outram Park MRT station by 5.45pm. We were rushing to my dad's law firm, the place Tina is working at now, to give Tina a birthday surprise because it was the only time slot all three of us were free. In the train on my way there, I smsed my uncle, asking for 2 favours: 1) Stall for time in case Tina decides to leave work early 2) Help deliver a rose and note to Tina when we arrive My dearest uncle did exactly that and he was so understanding and patient! I also found out that he bought a cake for Tina and got the office staff and lawyers to celebrate with her! She had just sat down for about 15-20 minutes after eating the cake with her colleagues (wow, sounds cool just putting it like that. heh) when my uncle passed the flower and note to her. In a matter of minutes, she read the letter and came down to the reception area where Jien and I were waiting with ice-cream (BEN AND JERRY'S!). By the time we opened th...

Overseas/Local

I'm going to be alone at home(discounting the presence of my maid) from tomorrow onwards until Thursday. Bummer. My brother is going to be in camp while my parents and sister are flying off to Bangkok tomorrow morning and will only return Thursday night. Those lucky piggies. I WANT TO GO TOO! And it is not like I can give my sister a shopping list of the things she can look out for me and probably buy for me. DOUBLE bummer. So I'm staying in Singapore while they'll be overseas. At dinner today, the subject of my university education came up again. I was playing with the idea of asking for another dog as a super early birthday present. But I was reminded (very cruelly) that if I was going overseas, I cannot get a dog now, or ever, at least until I have come home for good. My dad wasn't even thinking of getting another dog. Man, I miss Keller very much. I hate it when it draws nearer to my bedtime because I'll get so emo and I'll begin to think over and over of K...

Meeting up

Image
Initially, I really didn't want to leave the house for Orchard because the weather(rainy) was perfect for the activity called "staying home". I got myself moving though because One-Third was meeting up with the reason that this was the first weekend Daniel is booking out of camp! The "star" was late though. I met Tina first and indulged in ice-cream while Tina satisfied her cravings for bread and sushi. Eventually, Daniel came. Just before that, we were worried we wouldn't be able to recognize him. Tina even wondered aloud if Daniel would look really 'buff' now. However when he came, we had no problems recognizing him. He looks pretty much the same! Except for the part about his hair:) The 3 of us walked to Rouge to say hi to Bella. After which we walked and walked until we ended up at Coffee Club. Julie met us there and we did alot of talking. Tina embarrassed us many, many times with her extremely loud outbursts of laughter or exclamations. You sh...

My Keller

Image
When I was 8 years old, my father got a labrador retriever for me. I remember how, as a family, we sat in silence in my parent's room in our house at Pasir Panjang, as we thought of a meaningful name for our new dog. We wanted to make sure that our dog would have a nice name, something that special and unique. Then somebody suggested Keller, inspired by Helen Keller. Labradors were well-known as guide dogs and since we were getting a labrador, we finally decided on the name "Keller". By the time Keller officially arrived in my house, he was already quite big, although you could still consider him a puppy. The one and only time I carried him into the house, it was on someone's(I think mine) birthday. He was only a few months old and yet I was already struggling to keep him in my arms. It was not because he was wriggling about. Instead I remember him to be rather still, actually. Keller just looked around in slight bewilderment as I brought him out of the backyard into ...

Are you lonesome tonight? ...

To say thank you to Pst Tony for such a WONDERFUL time of listening to him lecture on spiritual journalling, my cell group and Leroy(He was SO sporting!) put up a short medley for him. The medley consists of 4 short songs that Pst Tony sang at one point in his lectures over the 3 days(Mon-Wed) he taught us this module. The first song was "Are you Lonesome Tonight" by Elvis Presley(Pst Tony kept referring to Elvis Presley and sang quite a number of his songs. He even let us listen to 2 songs from an 'extinct' CD). The second song was "Above All"(Again, he referred and sang this song many many many times). The third song was "One Little Boy called David" and the last song was "This little light of mine" but we sang the verse that said, "Don't let satan blow it out, I'm gonna let it shine". I'm presently uploading the video clip onto our Tung Ling Multiply group website. When it's done there, I'll post it over h...

Blood Diamond

Image
Today, I watched the movie "Blood Diamond" with a number of my Tung Ling classmates. We arrived at Cathay at about 4.15pm to buy the tickets when the movie was supposed to begin at 4.10pm. What's worse, we stood around for quite a bit trying to decide which movie to watch and whether we should walk over to PS to catch another show instead. So by the time we entered the theatre, it was about 4.30pm and the show had already begun. Well, it was a great show! Despite the fact that I was freezing in the theatre because it was so cold! Even with a jacket, I could feel the cold air piercing through(Or, on second thought, maybe I'm just exaggerating here). Anyhow, after such a moving ending, the whole group of us made a pit stop at the toilets. Then we took a group photo! I was actually quite embarrassed to ask everyone to stop in their tracks to gather together for a group photo because we still weren't close enough for me to tell if they found taking photos fun. I found...

Happy Rainy Weekend

Image
Saturday was an "ok" day in general, but what made my Saturday was having dinner with Uncle KK, Kah Wan, Joel Chia, Alekx and Joanne after Youth Ablaze at Ah Seah's eating place. From church, we took a bus to the nearest bus stop and then we walked the rest of the way there. It was raining in the afternoon so I had brought my trusty sidekick: the Giordano umbrella. But it had stopped raining by dinner time so I had to carry it as I walked. After awhile, Uncle KK suggested that I open the umbrella and continue walking with it opened over my head(Remember, it was about 7pm AT NIGHT. NO SUN.)! Of course, I didn't want to do that. So Uncle KK tried it, and I took the photo above(on the right)!:) Anyway, we ate the apparently famous 'ma you' chicken(something Joanne and I have never heard of or tried before) as well as many other claypot dishes. It was D-E-E-licious! What topped all this fun off was that after dinner, Eliz and Shu-En joined us at a bus stop nearby ...

1st week at Tung Ling

Image
For those who are still unaware, I will be studying in Tung Ling Bible College for the next three months. The first week seemed like a really long and slow one because of the early mornings and having to sit through lectures, always fighting to keep awake until we have had our morning tea. Here's the queue at morning tea. You can see everyone's excitement in the way they head straight to the table of food the moment they enter the canteen. It is also the best time to get to know each other better as we attempt to sit with people we still are unfamiliar with. *Observe the bowls of porridge on the table. On that particular day, we had the best dish of the week because the porridge was tasty(even though it looked so plain) and we were provided with (really)meshed century egg and crispy slices of fried wanton skin(that is the best way I can describe it because I do not know what it is called). My table went to get a bowl-full of that fried wanton skin so we could enjoy more of it! ...

Daniel's IN!

Image
Daniel, my fellow One-Thirder enlisted into NS this morning! Yay, he's in the midst of becoming a REAL MAN now;) As a farewell lunch for him, I tried to get the whole of One-Third to meet on Tuesday. Only half of One-Third turned up though. The people who came were Daniel(of course, the lunch is for him), Tina, Jien and myself. So you might as well say TDT was having a farewell lunch for Daniel. I arrived after Jien, where we waited for the other two of them to come, going to the toilet, exchanging belated Christmas presents and taking a few photos! Then came Tina and Daniel. We wanted to eat at the House of Sundanese but it was closed! So we ended up at Kenny Roger's(that played eerie songs because they just didn't suit the mood or setting). It still was a fun time of catching up and eating though. Sadly, the photos taken with my camera are all blur, but I'm going to post them anyway. I will have to ask Jien for better ones. After lunch, we eagerly walked up to Ben...

1st Youth Ablaze of 2007

Image
The first Youth Ablaze of 2007 was a slightly different one with ice-breakers for the first 15 minutes of service before the usual worship and word. Also, instead of the usual cell discussions, we could enjoy bubble tea, popcorn and sausages as we had fun, or tried to(in my cell's case), getting to know each other better. Here are some silly photos we took while cleaning up after the whole thing had ended. Then it was time for dinner! I was supposed to have dinner with my Sec 3s, but they postponed it to this Saturday. I felt a little "abandoned" for awhile, but I still had a fun time with the 19-year-olds at McDonalds. Some photos here!

Size 14 is not fat either

I just finished reading this book by Meg Cabot. As usual, she sticks to her candid style of writing that is just so enjoyable to read. This book is actually a sequel to the first book "Size 12 is Not Fat" in her newest(I think) series labelled "Heather Wells Mystery". If you are looking for a very light-hearted book that will not cause any depression or does not require deep reflection during/after the read, this is the book for you. Especially if you are a Meg Cabot fan:) Here's a short passage that I thought was really cute. It also reminds me of my opinion that guys look their most dashing when they are in a tuxedo;) I sign my discharge papers and head out, a sample packet of Tylenol my only souvenir - Tylenol, that was the best they could do - expecting to see my dad waiting for me in the lobby. But instead of Dad, I find Cooper. In a tux. I almost turn around and check myself back in, considering the way my heart turns over in my chest at the sight of hi...

YPM Leaders' retreat 2007

Image
This retreat took place on the 1st and 2nd of January, starting with my dad sharing about his vision for YPM(Young People's ministry) in church. From there, we left for JB! The resort we stayed in was rundown and felt very dirty, but we made the best of our situation and still had the time of our lives there! My roommates, Joanne and amy, and I ( ) had a very interesting experience in the wee hours of 2nd of January. I was the second in line to bathe, after Joanne. You must know that the shower area is separated from the rest of the toilet, and it has an open concept. So, from the inside of the room, the toilet bowl and sink is still of the same tiles and colour of the room. Then there are sliding doors which you have to slide open to enter the shower area that only has a translucent board above as shelter. You can simply shout across to your neighbour and if your neighbour is bathing, he or she would be able to hear you. If you took a stool and peered over the wall of the showe...

Wei Chuen & Limiin's wedding ("flashback")

Image
My dearest friend, Wei Chuen, married Limiin on 30th of December 2006. I was most relieved when the wedding ceremony ended as I had to sing the march-in song("Angels brought me here") and the communion song("At the foot of the cross"). It didn't help that I was trying desperately to recover from a minor bout of flu that completely affected my throat. You should have heard me on Thursday night when they had the rehearsal, I could barely reach the high and low notes, it was most embarrassing and worrisome! On the wedding day itself, I managed to complete both songs without any major humiliation, but I could have sang better. Here are a few photos, the first one is a group shot of YPM members with the couple: *Thanks Tina, for the necklace! It was such a last minute call for help and you responded so willingly! My church friends thought the necklace was cool;) The wedding dinner seemed more like a prom(or dinner & dance to my sister) to me, with everyone taking...
