YPM Leaders' retreat 2007
This retreat took place on the 1st and 2nd of January, starting with my dad sharing about his vision for YPM(Young People's ministry) in church.
From there, we left for JB! The resort we stayed in was rundown and felt very dirty, but we made the best of our situation and still had the time of our lives there!

My roommates, Joanne and amy, and I (
) had a very interesting experience in the wee hours of 2nd of January. I was the second in line to bathe, after Joanne. You must know that the shower area is separated from the rest of the toilet, and it has an open concept. So, from the inside of the room, the toilet bowl and sink is still of the same tiles and colour of the room. Then there are sliding doors which you have to slide open to enter the shower area that only has a translucent board above as shelter. You can simply shout across to your neighbour and if your neighbour is bathing, he or she would be able to hear you. If you took a stool and peered over the wall of the shower area, you would get to see your neighbour butt naked, bathing.
It was a slug on our toilet bowl! Amy screamed, inducing Joanne and I into screaming again!
Since I have given you such a detailed explanation of the layout of the bathroom, let me continue with my recount. So I was undressing myself, looking out into the shower area, when I saw a rat running about the shower area. I screamed, "There's a rat in the shower area!" Joanne and Amy quickly asked me to wrap myself with a towel and run out of the bathroom. I did exactly that. The 3 of us then went in again as they wanted to see the rat too. All was quiet, when suddenly the rat started jumping up the wall, as if it had been moving at the top of the wall and had fallen over so now it was trying to get back up. When we saw that, we screamed VERY LOUDLY and ran out of the bathroom. Amy wanted to see it again(the rat is actually quite cute because it is rather small, but still very gross). What she noticed next was this:
We then decided that if we were to bathe, we had to borrow our neighbours' bathroom. I didn't dare go back into the bathroom to change back into my clothes, so Amy and Joanne just went to the door to look out for people while I changed with our backs towards each other. When they looked out, they saw one of our 3 neighbours, Adrian, outside(His roommates were Andy Teo and Linus). He had heard us screaming and had come over to check. I had to change even faster. He came in and flushed away the slug, but the rat seemed to have disappeared because he did not see it when he tried looking. In the end, Amy and I went over to Adrian's room to bathe.
We really hope that we won't go back to this resort for next year's leaders' retreat.
The retreat, in general, was very refreshing spiritually. It also gave me the chance to spend more time with the other 19-year-olds(Joanne, Amy and I had a great time talking to each other before we slept at 2.30am). It has been a great start to 2007!:)
