Time to rest from the (crazy) weekend

Image
I think it is quite ironic that, for me, I appreciate the weekdays as a time to rest and recuperate from the weekends, when usually for most people, they take the weekends to rest and recuperate from the weekdays... I say this because I spend less time at home on weekends than I do on weekdays. It is crazy. This weekend was crazy. Yesterday, I left the house for church at 8am. I reached home at about 11:45pm. Have a look at my program: 8am - 9:30am : Morning Prayer Meeting 9:30am - 10am : Breakfast provided in church 10am - 12:45pm : Worship Team Focus Meeting 12:45pm - 1:05pm : Lunch at coffee shop nearby with Boon Yeow, James and Kevin 1:05pm - 4pm : Worship practice - I was the only keyboardist this weekend = STREESSSS:/ 4pm - 6:30pm : Youth service 6:30pm - 8pm : Dinner at 'purple market' with cell group 8pm - 11:45pm : Cell group meeting, then catch up with Bernice. Today was slightly better. I left the house at 7:50am to reach church at 8am fo...

Marking 31 December 2011

After Youth Ablaze service, based on the initiative of Shiang Lin and team, the 17 year olds organised a little appreciation session for us leaders. There are 3 cell groups in the zone, and each cell went up to say a short thank you speech to each of their leaders, which was really sweet of them! Left photo: My 'kids':D I will miss them this year when I join the Sec 2 zone. Right photo: The 17 year old zone Then we finally went over to my house and started setting up for our steamboat dinner and eventual countdown to 2012. Once again, James was one of the "main cooks": All the hungry people eating (in this photo we're missing Larissa, Zhulong and Weiping who joined us later): With the radio playing in the background, and I think with the influence of some alcohol, there was some dancing at the table: At one point of the eating, a few of them walked out to get some "fresh air", mainly to get away from the heat of the steamboat. From where we were...

Flashback to the Past

Image
Last Thursday, I was going through all the old stuff that was stored away in my cupboard, and I found this bag: It contained alot of party decor and toys, such as sparklers like this: This bag was actually used to store all the little things Jolene and a few others in my batch used to surprise me on my 20th birthday - that would be in 2008. I also found Jolene's birthday message to me - She even drew a dog and all on the other side of the message! There were a few more pieces of drawing block. She had written a poem by William Wordsworth that acted as a clue for me to go to the park near my house, where they would surprise me. I remember Kah Wan volunteering to walk me to the small gate of my house, where I found the message. Then we walked over to the park, and I screamed really loudly when they jumped out at me wearing those party masks. I really screamed very very loudly, if I remember correctly. It was quite embarrassing:) Wow, that was 3 years ago. Sometimes I still fee...

23 July 2011: Unusual Saturday with no Youth Ablaze

Image
On Saturday, 23 July, there was a churchwide equipping session conducted by Pst Dr Chew Weng Chee on "Passion and Calling of Leadership". It lasted from 2-6pm in the L2 Auditorium. As a result, Youth Ablaze was cancelled and the youths were encouraged to come attend this equipping instead. With no Youth Ablaze, and the equipping session ending early at around 5plus, it felt so weird being able to walk slowly to a place for dinner, and reach the place early. We actually finished dinner at about 8pm when we are usually only halfway through our dinner at that time on Saturdays with Youth Ablaze. Anyway, together with uncle KK, Shu-En, Joanne and Eliz, the 5 of us slowly walked to a nearby Thai restaurant called "Charcoal Thai". Shu-En and Joanne with the menu of Charcoal Thai, enjoying the 'keropok' appetizer. Uncle KK with the tom yum soup! All in all, the food wasn't bad! And not too expensive either. You can either go there and order many smal...

Happenings in May: Part 2

Image
14 May, Saturday: Jiejie's vocal concert I attended my sister's vocal concert that Saturday, and she sang in 3 items. The first one is a solo by her - I Dreamed A Dream (You can click on this link to go to the Youtube video). The second one is a duet by her and another of her classmate - I Know Him So Well (Again, please click on this link to view the video). A few of my sister's supporters: The third item she was in was the Finale item where all the students sang together. It was an interesting night!:) 15 May, Sunday: Playing with General after church, and steamboat at Wendy's After church and prayer meeting on Sunday, a few of them came over to my house to hang out and play with General. At that time, he was afraid of the guitar, and the playing of guitar actually seemed to have a calming effect on him. He even tried to hide under the bench, to save himself from the guitar: At the end of it all, he voluntarily climbed onto my lap and fell asleep! Here's a shot ...

January so far

Image
For the month of January, it is called the "Prayer Foundation" month for the church as we begin the year with a very strong prayer initiative. For the first week of January, we had prayer meetings from 8-9pm from Monday to Thursday. On Friday, we had a prayer concert from 8-9.30. I attended the prayer meetings on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of that week. Wednesday of week before last, 5 Jan: Prata after Prayer After the prayer meeting on Wednesday, I had supper with James, Shu-En, Joanne, Eliz and Eugene. We actually sat there for more than half an hour. We got there at about 9.30pm, all ready to order, only to be told that all pratas are only served from 10pm onwards. So we decided to sit there and wait. In the meantime, we talked and laughed about. Friday of week before last, 7 Jan: Happy birthday Faith! On Friday, I rushed down to church after work to have a short, rushed worship practice for the Prayer Concert that night. After the Prayer Concert, we gave Faith a bouqu...
