Extract from Shantaram, by Gregory David Roberts

I have been reading this book my dad passed to me during our July travels. It is about 900 pages long, and I am only at page 235 after all this time. I have just been dragging my feet on reading through this book to complete it. Don't get me wrong. It is very, very interesting. But I just haven't been very excited about reading it regularly and constantly so as to finish it sooner. Anyway, I was just reading it when this part of the book really cracked me up. For a bit of a background, let me explain abit. The main character, known as Linbaba in the slum that he is living in in India, received a message from an Indian friend. But there was a condition, or "catches" as his Indian slum-mate, Prabakar, put it. He had to fulfill this condition before he could receive the message sent to him. The catch was that he had to hug a bear. A real, live, big bear towering outside his hut in the slum. The bear is a circus bear, and its name was Kano. In the end, after much reluctan...

Another Week, Gone

Tuesday, 14 September We had land law lecture in the afternoon, and Angie brought us a treat - Koi bubble tea! It was fun, chewing on the pearls. And it helped to keep me awake and not zone out during the lecture:) Wednesday, 15 September I did not do an entire day's worth of slacking. I went for an interview in the morning, then had lunch at Mos Burger at Takashimaya - it's been EONS since I last ate at Mos Burger! Anyway, the main purpose of being at Taka was to taste some mooncakes, and buy some mooncakes home for the family. I ended up buying this flaky yam mooncake, which tastes like the teochew dessert 'oh nee' when heated up - DELICIOUS. I also bought mao shan wang durian mooncakes from the Peony Jade stall - WHICH WAS FANTASTIC. The durian mooncakes cost alot, but I think it was worth every cent! The slacking continued with some mario kart wii played before dinner time. Then, I went to the airport to send off Jon Cheong, Marilyn and Jia Wei. John Teng and I bot...

New day, New week

Image
A new week has begun and it really is time to buckle down and start studying. But before that, let me show you two random photos from school. Firstly, a photo of the bags belonging to Angie and myself: I recently received this brown Longchamp bag (the one on the right) from my sister as a belated graduation present. I've been carrying it to school quite regularly now because it is so big and can store so much stuff. As for the second photo, while my camera was out, and while we were waiting to enter the auditorium for our Criminal Law lecture after lunch time, I asked my 4 friends to entertain me by letting me take a photo of them: John Teng didn't cooperate though! Anyway, I really thank God for great classmates like them. I'm going to miss studying and hanging out with them when we all start work.

The Long Weekend

Friday, 10 Sep Before I say anything else, let me say this: HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIEJIE!! :) Besides wishing my sister happy birthday when I woke up in the morning, I went to McDonald's for breakfast, then watched "Up" back at home, as my brother had bought the DVD. Then I played Mario Kart Wii until about 3pm before walking out to McDonald's to get a McFlurry. Then it was back home for more Mario Kart Wii before I stopped to read a little bit before dinner. At about 8:15pm, John Teng drove by to pick me up to go to the Jumbo Seafood Restaurant at the indoor stadium. We were going to meet Gordon, Antonio and Jon Cheong there for dinner. Here is a photo of us wearing the aprons that would protect us from 'flying crab sauce', we were all ready to attack the crabs: Besides the chilli and pepper crabs, we had veal and toufu. And despite each small 'man tou' costing $0.50 a piece, we ordered loads of it because it was just too yummy when dipped into the chilli cr...
