things that make the day better

While I didn't have a good night's sleep last night because I kept waking up in the wee hours of the morning, and my back felt so very sore, today was still a good day. #1: "International Human Rights in Context", Steiner, Alston and Goodman I've been trying to borrow this book from the library as I need to reach a chapter of it, 150 pages' worth, in preparation for my next International Criminal Law seminar on Thursday. I FINALLY GOT IT TODAY. So the rest of the night is going to be spent with this, eh, lovely book. #2: 1st time of proper cooking For the first time since I returned to Nottingham, I did some proper cooking for dinner for Hong Zhen and I. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo of the end product! The potatoes and carrots weren't as soft as I hoped them to be, but Hong Zhen still enjoyed it, so I'm glad, and VERY relieved. #3: Daniel's MSN message After dinner, I returned to my room to see a message from my fellow One-Thirder, Danie...

1st proper weekend

Image
I just ended my first proper weekend back in Nottingham. Friday night: Jon Cheong came over to cook dinner for Gabriel and I. Saturday night: It was "FB (Florence Boot) Girls' Night"! Now that Trang is back to study in Nottingham (YAY!), we really had to meet up. So I invited Trang and Tzen over to my house for steamboat dinner. It was a good time of catching up! We also stuffed ourselves silly. Tzen brought over cheesecake. It started out round and uneaten. An hour later: Sunday afternoon: Dimsum lunch after the 11:15am church service! Sunday night: Reached home only at about 10pm after attending the 6:30pm church service. Although service ended at about 8pm, I was kept busy meeting many people in the Visitors' Lounge and Church Café. The weekend ended too quickly! A new week has begun. And so will the proper studying and reading. I'm also having my very first small group meeting of the year this coming Wednesday - I'm feeling so nervous about it!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOJO!

Before I left Singapore, I got as many of our LSBC cell group people together to do a very short, simple video for you. "Happy birthday to you Happy birthday to you Happy birthday to JOLENE Happy birthday to you!"

First pro photos of my Sister's wedding

Image
My sister's friend from her uni days, Dominic Khoo, is this very cool, well-known photographer who was walking around the house, church and hotel with his camera almost the entire day of the wedding. Either my brother or my cousin Samuel caught this candid shot of him. This morning, I woke up to see Facebook email notifications about me being tagged by my sister in some wedding photos she has put up on her Facebook account and on her blog. These photos are the first few of Dominic's works being published by my sister, if I'm not wrong? I just wanted to pick out 4 of them to post here (poached from my sister's Facebook account). My very very beautiful sister on her wedding day: Usually, on normal days, she's very pretty already. So, of course, on her wedding day, she was gorgeous! (Jiejie, I'm VERY PROUD of you, and I'm SUPER HONOURED to be your sister:)) I lent assistance to my sister during the wedding ceremony in the afternoon, trailing her, trying to tidy...

Pictures (and thankyous) are in order

Going back in time:- 18 Sep, Friday: The day before (sort of) I just had to eat Japanese food before returning to Nottingham. So my family entertained my request by heading down to Sakae Sushi at City Link (most convenient for my brother and dad). I say THANK GOD for the most brilliant family, and for Japanese food. *I say "sort of" because my flight was technically on 19 September, Saturday, 1:40am. But it can also be considered as the night of 18 September night, if you get what I mean. (sort of)19 Sep, Saturday: The day I reached the airport close to midnight of Friday night. I want to thank each and every person who came to send me off! I feel so touched, just thinking about it now! Thank you Uncle Zhu! Thank you Kar Jun (biggest, most unexpected surprise)! Thank you Alekx, for calling me and praying for me over the phone! I'm sorry I sounded so distracted and didn't give you my full attention when you were talking on the phone: Thank you daddy, mummy, gege and Ca...

My Singapore HP

With the biggest and most grateful thanks to my wonderful brother, he activated the Pay-as-you-roam thingy for my Singapore number so now I get reception on my Singapore number! HENCE Friends and family in Singapore, please feel free to sms me at my Singapore number and I should reply you using my UK number, to cut costs. Also, as a somewhat related note: The house is cleaned. My room is somewhat completed in terms of unpacking and decorating. I will take photos tomorrow and hope to blog about it by tomorrow night.

Just to say: I'M ALIVE AND WELL

Hello everyone! I'm now blogging this quick entry from my friends' house with internet. We came over to have takeout so that we could 'poach' their internet. I emailed the previous tenant who stayed in my house and she replied REALLY quickly, telling me where we can find the user ID and password that will allow my housemate and I to go on the internet in our very own house! So, I'm now very excited to go home to try it out. The past three days have been very very VERY tiring ones. I've been busy settling into the house, which entails the cleaning up and unpacking of ALL my stuff. The cleaning up part is going well, but not the unpacking part. My room IS A BIG MESS. Nevermind, things will improve with time. Most importantly, I'm doing very well here and I'm very happy to be back in Nottingham. I will blog in more detail and with pictures when my very own internet is up and running. AND, my Singapore number suddenly can't receive reception over here, s...

2nd last day - shopping!

Image
Yesterday, I tried to live up to the title of "fashion advisor" when I accompanied Amy and Eugene on their shopping trip, after having a simple dimsum lunch with them at Crystal Jade at Takashimaya. For his Commissioning Ball tonight, Eugene had to get a whole outfit (suit and all, sans shoes), while Amy already had 2 dresses to choose from at home and only needed a pair of shoes. From 2:30 to 6pm, we walked and looked and tried. At the end of the day, Amy bought a pair of heels. Eugene bought a jacket-pants suit and a tie from G2000, as well as a vest from Muji. We spent a REALLY long time at G2000. While Eugene and another of his army friend tried on suits, and we were feeding them ties and shirts to try on (Amy and I had so much fun, "playing around" with the guys, kind-of forcing them to try things), Amy and I spotted seats in the store and hurried towards them to rest our tired feet. It was the first time in a very long time that it was the girls waiting for th...

Sister's wedding: childhood video montage

FINALLY, it's been uploaded to youtube! Please, do watch it and let me know what you think! (If it's not-so-positive comments, please put it to me as gently as possible. I've a weak heart, heh;)) Here's Part 1 (I suggest you stream Part 2 while you're watching Part 1): Then carry on to Part 2:

Sister's wedding

If you want to see photos before I get around to blogging about this wedding of the century (at least to me), I've just uploaded some photos onto my Facebook account. Just to let you know. In the meantime, I'm going to get around to blogging!:)

I leave in 5 days' time

The title says it all. I will eventually get around to uploading photos and the wedding video of my sister and Edmund. The important word is "eventually".

My internship is over, but the madness isn't.

Whoa, I haven't blogged for close to a month now! There are too many photos, too many events that I need to mention. They'll come soon. I finished my internship last Friday (28th August) - a good month of new experiences and meeting new people, with whom I will probably come into contact with in the future. Under the mentorship of my dad's friend, who is a (very) senior partner in the firm: 1) I attended a 3-day trial, and a 12-day trial (the matter was settled by Day 4 of the trial) back-to-back at the High Court 2) I sat through a 2-day private mediation - something I would definitely have not gotten the chance to do if I was on some other "normal" internship 3) I followed a junior associate to the Subordinate Courts (Sub Courts for short) for one morning 4) I sat in a client meeting where I got to see my mentor prepare the client for cross-examination 5) I sat in 2 meetings between the lawyers in charge of the cases, saw how they went about discussing and prepa...
