BKK 10 Dec 2015 - Life is getting REALLY exciting...
I just had a FANTABULOUS weekend in Bangkok with Eugene, his sister, Denise, and his mum. It is a declaratory mark to the exciting phase I am living through now - from singlehood into marriage. Therefore, I am going to make it a point to blog more and not just cheat by posting my Instagram photos on this blog!
I shall start with the first "day", which just involved the flight from Singapore to Bangkok.
I shall start with the first "day", which just involved the flight from Singapore to Bangkok.
11 Dec, Thursday evening, I head to the airport with Eugene and aunty Jenna. Denise met us directly at the airport. I was feeling soooo happy to just get on a plane and fly away somewhere. Work was getting rather dreary and I think a bad case of wanderlust had hit me. Even if it is just a short weekend getaway to a nearby country like Bangkok.
But I really enjoy Bangkok! In particular, the cheaper food and cheaper stuff that makes me feel like a dollar goes so much further as compared to Singapore. Shopping is so much more satisfying over there.
We flew Air Asia to Don Mueang International Airport. The flight was uneventful, thank God for that. At the Thai airport, we did not see any stalls selling SIM cards, so we just got a limousine taxi and headed straight for the apartment we got off airbnb.
Our apartment had 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and a small pantry-like kitchen and sofa for a living room. It was a really cosy place. Rather bare. The toilet needed a little bit of fixing after our first night there. 2 out of 3 air-con remote controls did not work. The air-con in one bedroom didn't work so that room relied on the air-con in the living room, which thankfully blew right into that bedroom.
The location was good though. The nearest BTS station was Phaya Thai, which was about 5-8 minutes' walk away. It was 4 or 5 stops away from Mo Chit (for Chatuchak Market) and about 2 or 3 stops from Siam, so I consider it rather "central" for the places we wanted to go to. I also really liked that there was a living room and dining table - a good common area for the 4 of us to sit and chill and also pack all our stuff.
However, if you ask me if I would go back to that apartment, I would say no. For a city like Bangkok, I would prefer to stay in a hotel where there is a change of towels every day and housekeeping comes in to make the bed and clean the room daily. For 4 of us for 3 nights, we paid about S$360. Decent price, but also a price of a decent hotel accommodation. So... I will choose a hotel, maybe in the same area, the next time.
Anyway, by the time we got to the apartment, settled in and got all washed up, it was really late, and we all went to bed tired.
