Highlights of the Week

And yet again, I find myself updating this blog only after a week from my previous entry. I am very sorry about this irregularity. Hopefully, with the start of this week, I will blog more during the week so that my next entry will not be dated next Sunday.

Wednesday night (17 Oct):
After my nine20 group met up to share our testimonies, we prepared the ingredients for our FB Waffles & Toasties Night! Actually, we are supposed to have 3 evangelistic/outreach events in our hall this year (or is it semester, I'm not sure). So we decided to make and give out free waffles and toasties to our hall mates in FB. It was really fun, quite stressful at times because there were SO many people waiting for us to get their waffles and toasties ready.

I was in charge of making the waffles. The first time round, I forgot to put oil/butter so our first batch completely failed and stuck to the waffle maker. I spent the next 20-30 minutes scraping out the annoying waffle remains with a knife. At one point in time, one unappreciative BLOKE said really loudly, "Hey scrubber, hurry a bit won't you". I just kept my head bent down, continued scraping at the waffle, pretending I didn't hear that. Well, God bless you brother.

I burnt my 4th finger on my left hand slightly. That was the sign for me to "knock off" and go to bed. It was stinging at first, but later I put some antiseptic cream on the very small burn area and now my skin just looks... charred, or 'chao ta' in non-English description. It actually looks like a birthmark...

Anyway, here are a few photos. The first two are of my nine20 group, or of the people who were present at the meeting that night.

Thursday night to Sunday afternoon (19-21 Oct):
I stayed with jiejie Aileen, Richard and Jack in Bromsgrove this weekend, and had a wonderfully fantastic time with them. It is most difficult and painful to get over the "post-holiday" feelings I'm going through right now. It doesn't help that they are leaving the UK for Singapore for good come November 5th. I've never felt this alone actually.

Anyhow. Thursday night, Richard picked me up from Barnt Green train station and on the short drive back, he actually apologized "on behalf of his British compatriots" because jiejie Aileen had told him of how unfriendly the locals seemed to be. I really like my cousin-in-law.

On Friday, to make my nephew, Jack, happy, we drove about 2 hours down to Legoland in Windsor. The queues for the rides were rather long but I managed to sit two of the rather kiddy rides. One was the boat ride with Jack (you will see photos of him at the wheel) - he loved this ride the most because he could steer the boat. He queued close to 45 minutes for this ride though. The other ride I took was this tame rollarcoaster ride with the Band family. It was then that I learnt that jiejie Aileen really doesn't like rollarcoasters because she finds them too scary. Personally, I liked the Lego Mini City best. There, they did mini replicas of well-known places of interest like Holland, Belgium etc. Below you'll find photos of Lego structures/figurines. Do look out for the Lego-made HIPPOS!

Friday night - I tried to help jiejie Aileen and Richard set up a facebook account for each of them, but their names weren't accepted! It was most bizarre and annoying.

Saturday night - Rugby finals! England lost though. But I was glad to be watching it with Richard and jiejie Aileen. If I was back in FB, I would probably be holed up in my room struggling with my law readings.

Sunday - Before rushing off to catch the train, jiejie Aileen brought me to a Chinese supermarket to buy some frozen char siew baos and siew mais to satisfy my dimsum cravings. Oh my gosh it was WONDERFUL to see Yeo's packet drinks and all the Chinese food! Now, I just need to find a way to steam/microwave the stuff I bought. I think I may have to go to Janice's or John's room to borrow their stove, pots and pans, since they live in self-catered halls.

And I'm now back in my room.
