First nine20 meeting

I just got back about half an hour ago from the first nine20 meeting. It was like cell group back in Singapore. But the bible discussion came before the worship. Well, the exact order was a short ice-breaker, personal testimony, bible discussion, 2-song worship session, then a prayer request time.

I was the only Asian there. All other 13 people present were Caucasians. I could not have felt anymore odd.

But, being the thick-skinned person that I'm becoming, I find myself in more and more situations like these. At times, call me oversensitive, but "they" look at me funny (And I'm talking about every other Caucasian, not just the ones in my nine20 group). I want to "immerse" myself in this new culture, this new environment, but it is just so difficult to keep up a conversation with them. I find myself asking all the questions, wanting to find out about them, when all they want to do is to keep on doing whatever they're doing and NOT answer my questions or keep up the conversation.

Thank God, there are a few British girls I have met, like this girl called Katy, she doesn't like clubbing, she is easy to talk to... she likes my English accent (Singaporean slang?). And then there are the international students who stay in this hall, they accept me as who I am and we like hanging out with each other. We have nice, proper, TWO-WAY conversations. It is a pity that all these nice people are staying in the opposite end of my hall.

However, I am just whining, complaining. I have friends, that is all that matters. I've also found myself in a situation where I can only fully rely on God (Here, I'm not even going to apologize for sounding "holy" or "religious" to my non-Christian friends, because He's pretty much all I've got now. The international students have their boyfriends, I have my Father). So, I guess this is a blessing in disguise.

I'm determined to make friends with my law books though. They have wonderfully THICK waists, a full figure.

YAY.
