Retreat!
Yesterday morning, I left for Pulai Springs Resort, JB, Malaysia with my sister and 16 other church members for a worship ministry retreat. We have this retreat once a year and this year, I attended this retreat for the very first time. It was a very short retreat of 2 days and 1 night only. I arrived back in Singapore in the evening today.
One thing is for sure, the thing we enjoyed the most was the FOOD. We seemed to be eating and eating constantly with breaks inbetween that weren't enough to completely digest all the food from our previous meal. Yesterday, first thing we did after we left church (meeting point) was to have breakfast at a market in Bukit Timah. The moment we reached the resort in JB not long after breakfast, we had lunch at the resort's only Chinese restaurant. About 2 hours later, we had tea after a session of ice-breakers. Before we knew it, it was time for dinner at the same Chinese restaurant. Then guess what? We went out for supper afterwards! This morning, we woke up and had breakfast in the resort's cafe before heading off for our final session for the retreat. Afterwards, we had lunch, again at the Chinese restaurant. Basically, it was just eating and eating and eating. BUT, during our meals, we got to interact so it was a great time!
The swimming pool at the resort looked FANTASTIC but I didn't pack my swimming costume into my bag. I knew there was going to be a swimming pool and that we would have an hour break before dinner to rest and relax. However, I brought a small bit of my homework to the resort (With just one more day extra, teachers think we can handle so much more homework) so I had to stay in the room to complete a little bit of it. Isn't it sad? A retreat is a time for people to take time off from work and the worldly stress to reflect and bond with friends. Yet I had to bring my homework to the retreat so that it would lighten the burden somehow when I got back to Singapore.
All in all, it was a wonderful, enlightening experience. I may have gone through most of the retreat feeling and looking like a zombie (as a result of insufficient sleep) but I definitely had a great time getting to know the other worship team members better.
