Part B Advocacy Training Workshop Day 1
I SURVIVED DAY 1 OF THE ADVOCACY TRAINING WORKSHOP!
The day's program was scheduled as 8:30am to 5 pm. But we started everything at 9:05am and ended at 4:15pm. Although we started late, we ended much earlier than expected.
What do I do at this workshop? It is a very practical 2 days of teaching us skills to conduct various procedures in Court. Today, I had to make 3 4-minute performances that were video taped and reviewed immediately after. The first was a submissions before a judge (no real judge involved) - to apply for a discharge of an injunction. The second was to conduct an Examination-In-Chief - interviewing my own witness on the stand. The third was to conduct a Cross-Examination - interviewing a witness selected by the opponent.
I was really dreading it because: 1) We had to prepare to present to a judge and prepare questions as if we were conducting our own trial; 2) I had to watch the video taping of myself, which I don't enjoy because it's always cringe-worthy to watch myself talk; and 3) My usual gang consisting of Gordon, Angie, John and PY were in an entirely different group for me so I was all alone.
Last night, I rushed home from the equipping session and stayed up late just to prepare for it. In the end, the day passed really quickly and I survived all three performances without ending up in complete and utter humiliation of myself.
I learnt new skills, listened to interesting anecdotes and advice from patient and kind practitioners, had rather nice catered food at the 2 teabreaks and lunch time, and made new friends!
We have one more half-day session in 2 weeks' time. So I will have to prepare for it... when I have to:D
THANK YOU GOD FOR BRINGING ME THROUGH TODAY! I actually felt quite terrible and alone at the start of the morning, but I got through it! Yes, being alone can be good.
