Proper update for this week

Image
Yet another week is over. My 6th week in Nottingham, UK is officially beginning in less than 2 hours. According to Kah Wan, who is counting the number of days I have left before I return to Singapore, I have 50 more days to go. Thursday (25 Oct) : My first Contract tutorial was quite a funny one! I only realised, 15 minutes before my tutorial began, that my tutor is actually the lecturer who first started lecturing the first major topic for Contract law. And I liked him as my lecturer. He really is a funny, old man, full of sarcasm and dry, English humour and wit. He calls us by our sirnames. So I'm "Chua" to him. And before lesson proper, he gave us slips of paper that had the words "C18 (our respective sirnames)" written on it. He then made us take "prison mug shots" by holding the piece of paper in front of us while he used his digital camera to take a photo of us with the slip of paper. I've now pinned up that piece of paper on my cork board in...

NEW DISCOVERY: Daylight Saving Time

I am VERY excited about this Daylight Saving Time business that I am a part of now that I'm staying in Nottingham, UK! But anyhow, for those who have absolutely no idea what this is all about, I don't too. haha. Well, basically, as of 1AM (Singapore time should be 8AM) 28th October, all UK clocks turn back an hour. Back to the standard time of the UK. So, the time difference between Nottingham and Singapore will now be 8 hours, instead of 7 hours. TAKE NOTE: I'M NOW EIGHT HOURS BEHIND YOU (if you are in Singapore). To make things a little easier, I found this clock thingy that can be placed on my blog. I haven't figured out how to put a space between it and the dates of my entry because I'm not a whiz at html. I really hope you guys won't get too confused with the moving numbers above. Ok, I've photos to show all of you and tell you about how I spent my last few days after Wednesday. But I'm going to sleep now. Oh and before that, I'll turn back an ...

Midweek Entry

The past few days have been... cold. The temperature range in Nottingham has been 2-11 degrees celcius. Fortunately, the sun has been shining very brightly in the afternoon so you only feel the cold if you are in the shade or if you leave your fingers uncovered out in the open for awhile. But, I'm liking the cold. Or more like I'm liking the part about having to wear jackets, I like wearing jackets because that way, I can wear anything I like on the inside, repeating it as many times as possible without peeople noticing;) Yesterday, I read an sms from jiejie Aileen asking if I had already eaten the frozen dimsum I had bought from Birmingham on Sunday. She suggested that I eat it quickly because I should not keep it for more than 48 hours. So, I asked John if I could "borrow" his mini kitchen in his room during our 3-hour break between lectures at lunch time. John generously agreed and so, after having a quick lunch at Portland Building, Po Yew and I went over to John...

Highlights of the Week

Image
And yet again, I find myself updating this blog only after a week from my previous entry. I am very sorry about this irregularity. Hopefully, with the start of this week, I will blog more during the week so that my next entry will not be dated next Sunday. Wednesday night (17 Oct): After my nine20 group met up to share our testimonies, we prepared the ingredients for our FB Waffles & Toasties Night! Actually, we are supposed to have 3 evangelistic/outreach events in our hall this year (or is it semester, I'm not sure). So we decided to make and give out free waffles and toasties to our hall mates in FB. It was really fun, quite stressful at times because there were SO many people waiting for us to get their waffles and toasties ready. I was in charge of making the waffles. The first time round, I forgot to put oil/butter so our first batch completely failed and stuck to the waffle maker. I spent the next 20-30 minutes scraping out the annoying waffle remains with a knife. At on...

Yet another week

Oh my, this week has really gone past so quickly. I only just realised that I haven't updated this blog for a week now! Here, I convey my apologies to those who derive some sort of entertainment or pleasure from reading my blog:) Anyhow, time has been passing by so quickly, which is something good, and yet bad at the same time. Good : Before I know it, I'll be taking a train down to Bromsgrove to meet Jiejie Aileen, Richard and Jack! I will get to spend time with them, enjoy non-hall food for about 4 days, check out Legoland. And, before I know it, I'll be going back to Singapore for Christmas! Bad : Sunday will come, my stay at jiejie Aileen's home will end, and it will probably be my last time staying with them in Bromsgrove as they will be moving to Singapore - I am going to miss them so much (or maybe I'll miss the thought that I have relatives somewhere in the UK to whom I can run to for help). And before I know it, exams and essays will be due. Now then, highl...

Saturday night was the highlight of my weekend - a Bridget Jones marathon. After dinner, Katy, Sarah, Christine and Loretta came over to my room and we watched Bridget Jones 1 and 2 over cups of tea and chocolate biscuits. The DVDs were happily provided for by Sarah. During this marathon, 2 funny things involving my neighbour, Olly (I think this is his nickname? I'm not sure. I've never had a proper conversation with him in my entire life), took place, and made me oh-so-glad that I had these 4 British girls in my room with me on Saturday night: 1) Katy went to the bathroom and on her way back, she bumped into Olly. He asked her, "Were you in my room?" Katy just played along, replying, "Yeah, of course!" He just returned with a "Oh! Cool ok!" or something like that. Katy said he seemed a little drunk. 2) There was a knock on my door. I just said, "Who's that?" and the door was pushed open because I hadn't locked it and it wasn'...

Goose Fair! among other things

The weather over these past two days has been quite wonderful, as the sun has been smiling down upon us very happily. There are colder moments when the wind blows or when the clouds hide the sun. Otherwise, in the day, it is so uplifting to see the sun shining down on us, with people sitting on the grass eating their lunch on open fields. The right photo shows the view from the window in my room. Can you see how blue and cloud-less the sky is? The sun is shining so brightly too! As for the photo on the left, I took it while walking towards Portland Building, where I was meeting Tzen (my Bruneian friend. Just pronounce it as 'jen') for lunch. The clock tower in the distance is part of the Trent Building. At night, however, it is very cold, with temperatures dipping below 10 degrees celsius. It is at night where I usually feel a little bit more depressed and alone, especially with my "neighbours" making so much noise outside. Part of me wants to join them and get to kno...
