POST EXAMS ACTIVITIES #1: Bangkok!
My last paper was on the fateful day of Friday, 9 December 2011. I met Kah Wan and Eliz for lunch at the Purple Market.
It was a significant event for me because lunch on weekdays for the past 5 weeks or so were always at home, because studying for exams meant I should save time and just have lunch at home. BUT, ON FRIDAY, I COULD GO OUT FOR LUNCH. Why?
BECAUSE EXAMS ARE O-V-E-R. WHOO!
Kah Wan dropped by after lunch to have a look at General, since the last time he saw General was quite a few months ago. He tried to trick General into thinking that he had thrown his cap, so that General would go running after the cap when actually Kah Wan had only made the motion of throwing and tried to hide the cap behind him. General would not be tricked!
So I come home, take a photo of all my exam materials, with Hippo sitting on top, smiling triumphantly at me because the only thing I need to do with them now, is to figure out a way to store them or to get rid of them.
And I smile back triumphantly at Hippo.
And then I start to pack for the family trip to Bangkok. Before I knew it, we were on the plane leaving Singapore, and going to Bangkok! I tried to get a photo of the beautiful sunset colours, but this photo just doesn't do it justice:
Our flight was scheduled to leave Singapore at 6:15pm. But there was a delay in push-off, and we waited in a long queue of planes to commence lift off. So, we got to Bangkok later than estimated. And by the time we reached the hotel - Novotel Siam Square - it was around 9-ish, or 10pm, if I don't remember wrongly. We all got to our rooms, washed up, and went to bed.
Saturday, 10 December 2011
At 8:30am, we trooped down to the cafe at level 2 for our breakfast buffet, which we thoroughly enjoyed for our stay in Bangkok over the weekend. The ham and cheese omelette, and the waffles, were really yummy! Our one and only 6-person group shot from the trip:
At about 10ish, we left the hotel to head to Platinum Mall. By the time we got there and decided on what time to meet for lunch, it was about 11am. My dad and brother went up to the food court to wait, while us girls started at the accessories level at Platinum Mall (Zone 2, Level 5 I think!)
Of course, no photos while shopping because I was kept busy trying to spot nice things I would like or be able to buy to give away as Christmas presents.
At 1pm, we found the guys at the food court and the buying of food began. Here's the pad thai, which we all decided was THE BEST on the trip:
We also had shark's fin soup and fish maw soup:
We ended off the meal with a refreshing coconut, and dessert - tapioca and mango with sticky rice - YUM-MYYYY:
Then it was more shopping at Platinum Mall. This time round, we went to Zone 3, which is the newest of the zones. The guys went to Central World and they caught the movie "Immortals". At about 5pm, with legs and back aching, the girls went over to Central World to meet the guys, and we slowly made our way back to the hotel on foot.
For dinner, we met up with a group of LSBC friends who were also holidaying in Bangkok. We had a great Chinese meal courtesy of pastor Andrew Jiang.
Towards the end of the meal, my parents took to babysitting baby Nathaniel (Andrew and Kelly's youngest son) to free up his parents for a little while.
The day finally ended, and we got back to the hotel, AND I LAID MYSELF DOWN TO REST. Wow, my back was REALLY aching from all the walking and standing done in the day!
Sunday, 11 December 2011
We had our satisfying breakfast at the hotel at 8:30am, then the parents went to visit Pastor Andrew Jiang's church, while the kids walked to Central World for more shopping.
At one of the entrances to Central World, they had a few Christmas displays, and we girls decided to have a 'boliao' photo taken together:
On closer inspection, we realised that one of the arms of the poor bear was damaged:
We shopped together until 11, then my sister and I went to Platinum Mall for some 'targetted' shopping, i.e. to get things we saw the previous day but didn't get, but decided we still want them anyway. My brother and Carolin made their way to MBK.
At about 2pm, all of us gathered at the entrance to the MBK food court for a late lunch. Of course, we had pad thai, which wasn't great as compared to Platinum Mall's pad thai. My sister also bought the 'egg noodles', my dad bought a bowl of beef 'kway teow', and my mum tried a bowl of cheng tng. We also had 2 coconuts, and, of course, tapioca and mango with sticky rice!
In our afternoon dose of shopping, my sister bought lychee and choco-banana flavoured pocky. So far, we've only tried the lychee flavoured pocky - it was not bad! The lychee flavouring seemed authentic to me!
For our last dinner in Bangkok, we went to a Thai restaurant just across the road from our hotel. Thank God it's still around, since the last time we ate there was about 3 years (or more) ago on our last trip to Bangkok. We had tomyum, chicken green curry, cashew nut chicken, spring rolls, kang kong, yummy pineapple fried rice and pad thai:
And OF COURSE there was dessert: red ruby and green jelly, and, definitely, mango with sticky rice. We also had a plate of sweet potato, which I didn't get a photo of.
Today, Monday, 12 December 2011
We had our usual satisfying breakfast beginning at the usual time of 8:30am. My sister then took a walk out to do a bit of last-minute shopping, while the rest of us stayed in our hotel rooms, lazing around until 11am, when we had to take the hotel van (which we booked the night before) to the hotel. Our flight was departing at 1:50pm.
At the airport, we each enjoyed a scoop of Baskin Robbins ice-cream. Then after getting through customs and the necessary checks and procedure, we had a quick lunch at one of the little Thai cafes. Of course, there was pad thai, which was still not as good as Platinum's pad thai:
We also ordered their pineapple fried rice, which was quite tasty, as well as their chicken green curry and spring rolls. And of course, we ordered mango sticky rice to end off the meal (note how the glutinous rice came shaped in a teddy bear!):
We boarded the plane at the final call, and got home for a homecooked meal by Miming. AND I WAS REUNITED WITH MY (extremely excited) GENERAL:D
I hereby present my shopping loot:
