End of my 6th week here

It has been an interesting weekend for me actually. Haven't gotten much sleep, didn't do LOADS of work (but definitely did do some), but I've been out of my hall quite a bit... Maybe that's why this weekend seems not as boring. Maybe that's why it seems like one of the more interesting weekends I've had so far in Nottingham.

Friday night:
Yee Tzen, Erica and I popped by Jae's house to wish her happy birthday with a slice of delicious white and dark chocolate truffle cheesecake after dinner. It felt a little bit awkward because there were 3 other girls with her in her room. We knew them by name but at the same time, we just didn't know them that well. They also seemed to be in "their own world"...

Anyway, I don't think I've mentioned Jae before? She used to stay in Florence Boot hall but moved out to Broadgate Park (self-catered hall) about 2 weeks ago because she just couldn't stand the food served to us in FB. She's from South Korea and she is particularly close to 2 Hong Kong girls and a girl from Paris.

After eating a bit of cake and doing a little bit of talking, the three of us left. Erica returned to FB to do work while Tzen and myself met up with Janice and walked to the small theatre in school. There was a play going on and a few of us were going to catch it. The few of us would mean people like, me, Tzen, Janice, Po Yew, Angie and Angie's boyfriend, Jon. It was a "double bill", where 2 short plays would be performed in one night.

The first play, I kind-of understood it. It is also quite disturbing as well because they were describing hell as the people who are around you. Basically, it starred 3 characters who had died and had been sent to hell for certain selfish/evil acts they had committed when they were alive. Their "hell" was presented as a room with 3 sofas, and nothing else. They kept wondering when the torture instruments and tactics would come in to make life "living hell" for them. But they then realised that they were going to torture each other by their behaviour and words. And they were stuck together in that room forever and ever. The ending was quite haunting because, at this realisation that finally sank into them, they all sat themselves back on their respective sofas, laughing. One of the characters then said in a resigned tone, "Well then." And the lights went off.

The second play, however, was just full of shouting and difficult to comprehend. The 4 characters on stage were just stuck in their own world, each having their own monologue, cutting in each other's lines here and there. Then there was loads and loads of shouting and screaming that made my ears tingle. Po Yew's ears too. Now, do not ask me what the second play was about because it's still a mystery to me. I have decided, however, that I will not waste any brain cells trying to figure out this second play.

After the play, Janice headed back while the remaining 5 of us went to The Venue to just sit and talk. Only the guys, Jon and Po Yew, got drinks for themselves.

Saturday:
Spent my morning in the hall, read some, ate some (brunch), talked some (with Tzen). Then, being persuaded by Daniel, I went over to Jubilee campus to study with him. Together with Yang, he "picked me up" from the bus stop at the North Entrance of school, and we walked to their halls. There, we went to the library and we all did work, me reading contract law in preparation for my tutorial on Thursday. We did work until dinner time. Had dinner (FB's food and atmosphere is still better!) then I went to Daniel's room to read some more. Yang went back to his own room to do his own work.

At one point in time, Daniel and I were sitting on his bed watching this silly, random, rather morbid cartoon called "Family Guy". Actually, I was sitting up. He was lying down. At the end of the 3rd episode or something, I asked him something only to get a funny sound in reply. He had fallen asleep. Oh my I didn't really know what to do. So I wanted to get off the bed to the table and continue with my law readings, but he suddenly said, "Did I just fall asleep?". Quite freaky I should say.

So, we continued doing our own work. But at about 11pm, the two of us gave up and started talking about stuff... Finally, the "Jubilee Boys" (Daniel, Yang and Eugene - all Singaporeans studying in Nottingham) walked me back to my hall. I reached back at 1:30am. The temperature in which we were walking: SIX DEGREES CELCIUS. Thankfully Daniel lent me another of his jackets to wear over the jacket I was wearing. If not I think I would have frozen myself silly by the time I arrived back at FB.

Sunday - today:
After much consideration (I almost had the urge to not visit any churches today because I didn't know which church to visit. It really is so frustrating, trying to find a church in which I can settle into), I finally decided that I'd better go to a church, and I would go to Christian Centre. Katy text me that we will meet at the main door at 10am. Before that, she wanted to have breakfast with me so we could chat, at 8:30am. I thought, "Ok, I'll wake up at 7:30 to bathe and all that before having breakfast to her".

I woke up at 9:20am.

I got there by 10:05am though, only 5 minutes late. I contented myself with a packet of chocolate milk for breakfast, went to church. Then met Yang and Tzen in town. We didn't know what to do because we were waiting for Daniel and Denise to meet us in town as well. So we ended up sitting in McDonalds. I had McFlurry for lunch - I simply had no appetite and didn't want to eat anything else actually. Eventually, everyone came. We carried on sitting in McDonalds, only leaving after about an hour of slacking and talking rubbish.

We walked a bit and bumped into Angie who was doing some shopping by herself after sending off her boyfriend at the train station (Jon is studying in Durham). After a bit more walking and waiting, we all headed back to our halls for dinner. Where I am now.

There, my weekend in boring details.

There were many 'bo liao' moments, but at the same time, I still feel that overall this was one of my better weekends here? I'm not sure why actually... maybe it's just that I didn't sit around in my room the whole day on Saturday AND Sunday. And also, probably, because I came to realise how much I treasure going to church as I had entertained the thought of not attending church at all over here when I'm in Nottingham just last night.

Not to worry though, I WILL find a church. So LSBC friends and my family, I don't mean to alarm you in any way. I know that you'll probably find it most worrying and rather appalling if I stop going to church completely!
