My brother, an NS man!

Ok, so today he was one of the "enlistees", a "recruit"... but he is on his way to becoming a handsome, fit young man in UNIFORM! Whoo! I love guys in uniform! :)

What more, the name of my brother's company is QUITE cool! Falcon! He's in the 2nd platoon so he doesn't need to climb so many floors to his bunk, just to the 3rd floor only. As compared to the 4th platoon that's on the FIFTH floor!

So. Starting right from the beginning. My parents, brother and I left the house at 11.45 today for the SAF Ferry Terminal. My brother was supposed to report by 12.45 while my parents and I went on a tour of the Basic Military Training Centre (BMTC). We went into the bunks (Quite spacious, 12 or 13 beds in a room. The tour leader said the beds were as comfortable as the ones in a chalet), saw the Recruit Annex (A place in their block for the guys to chill, watch tv, play table football, table tennis, billiard), their sports facilities, canteens and auditorium.

At the auditorium, we watched an interesting video, heard the BMTC commanding officer make a speech and observed the oath-taking ceremony. Before the whole thing ended, we all had to stand for the National Anthem. As they played the song, they showed the Singapore flag moving in the wind (it was a video of the flag moving, not just a picture), it was so... motivational? I'm not sure what's the right word but it just made me feel SOOO proud to be a Singaporean.

Afterwards, my parents and I met up with my brother again for lunch, which actually took place at about 3'o clock. We had our first taste of army food, which actually tasted really good! Here's a picture.

Wanton soup, chicken rice (the rice is DELICIOUS!) and honeydew. YUM! I think my brother's gonna have tasty meals at camp.

It's a pity I only managed to take one photo. It just seemed inappropriate to take photos of the bunks, the recruit annex, the auditorium etc. I tried taking a photo of where we collected our food and already the officers were staring at me. That picture didn't turn out very nice though, so I'm not gonna put it up. Just admire the food... ;)

After going through this whole new experience, I just have to let parents know that HAVE NO WORRIES, YOUR SON IS GOING TO HAVE A GREAT TIME IN NS. I mean, you don't have to worry that he will be forced to eat terrible-tasting food and sleep on uncomfortable beds that would hurt their backs. They will also have adequate rest as well, lights out at 10.30pm, wake up at 5.30am. Then at the very end, your sons will come out STRONG, HEALTHY, HANDSOME IN THEIR UNIFORMS.

As for us girls, if you have cousins, brothers, boyfriends, go in with them on their enlistment day. There were a group of guys who enlisted on their own... looked quite pitiful because they had to eat lunch on their own. Whereas guys like my brother could eat lunch with their loved ones.

I was a little sad when we had to leave my brother. BUT, I'm just going to think that he's gone on a 2-week holiday to a faraway island called... Pulau Tekong.
