Echoing my sister's sentiments
As I am now waiting for the bathroom to be freed up by my sister so that I could take a bath, I read my sister's blog and an email I received from my cousin now living in Ambridge... And have come to the conclusion that I, myself, want to do some serious travelling to visit all my cousins overseas! Especially my nieces and nephews! :)
While my sister talks about how adorable and SMART my nephew is becoming, I must whine about the differences in education systems of Singapore and America. Just look at the FUN school lives of my nieces, Rachel and Elizabeth, after they've moved over to America (Words are written by my cousin)!
1) The girls are doing very well at school. Both are ahead of their classes, mainly because the S'pore syllabus is ahead. Elisabeth is in 1st Grade and has been put on an accelerated programme doing 2nd Grade Reading and Math. Rachel is in 5th Grade and has been picked to be part of the school's 5th Grade Gifted Programme. All this is doing wonders for the girls' morale and self-esteem, as you can imagine, so they are enjoying school very much. They like their teachers and are forming new friendships.
2) Rachel likes that she doesn't have to wear a school uniform. Beth enjoys not struggling with a heavy book bag. Most days, all she has in hers is a thin paper file with homework papers, a library book and a sweater!
3) They are enjoying gym periods and their free lunches too!
4) The girls are in school from 9am-3pm.
5) Highland Elementary is a public school so tuition and busing are free for residents within the school district. The school even provides all school books and basic stationery.
I'm in complete envy! *Whining alert* Ok, so this is primary school, but I don't think my primary school experience was as fun, interesting and exciting as well! The thing that impacted me the most was the words "not struggling with a heavy book bag". I wouldn't mind that! Free lunches! High self-esteem! MAN! I want those! As in, it's not like I have a low self-esteem but sometimes school just makes you feel so stupid. Especially now in JC, in Econs tutorials to be specific, my Econs tutor's knowledge is SOOOOOOOOO great (that it puts me in awe) I feel absolutely stupid even though I may have studied the discussion topic the night before.
Save me, someone? Let me travel to America and England for a holiday just to play with my lovely nieces and nephews.
