CNY 2013: Eve & Day 1

This is my 3rd CNY since graduation (I seem to mark everything now from the time I graduated and returned to Singapore for Nottingham). And this is our 1st CNY without Mama Chua around. It is also our 1st CNY where we did not have to go to the Tan family reunion dinner from the Chua family reunion dinner.

The Chua family reunion dinner was at our house on Friday evening. It was a potluck event with yusheng from Sakae Sushi. We were missing Mama Chua's quiet presence. And it felt to me like a big part of the family was missing, even though I have never been very close to Mama. But she always seemed to me like the matriarch of the family, with her reassuring presence.

CNY Day 1 began with church from 9-10am, then we went over to uncle Edwin's house for a simple brunch that was mainly Peranakan. And we took our customary family photo, missing Mama Chua and aunty Phyllis.

At every stop we made, taking group photos with our elderly folk seemed to be most important as we all kept saying we don't know how many more times we can get to see them like this. It's quite sad just hearing us all talk like this. The time of our grandparents' generation passing away is really here...

Anyway, this is our group photo with 'lao yi' - first photo is taken by Edmund. Second photo is taken by Gege:

We also took group photos at 'lau gu' and 'lau king's house, and we definitely took a family photo with Mama Tan after dinner at uncle Siew Boon's house. I really hope that Mama Tan will live a MUCH loooonger life so that she can attend my wedding (to only-God-knows-who)...

Last photo-taking event of the day was our very own family photo. This time, though we had Edmund, we were missing Carolin! But General was still brought in and look at us all serious, trying to get General to co-operate:

We got 2 nice photos! The bottom one is the best!
