Blue Heart Blessed by Susan Meissner

As a result of a skype chat conversation with Weiping last Saturday night, she lent me this book at church on Sunday. It's a novel (Christian chick lit, whoo! haha) on a lady called Daisy. 10 days before her wedding, her fiance told her he didn't love her enough to marry her and called the whole thing off. This book centered around how she recovered from this experience and how she came out of the whole thing to find love once again.

And when I say to find love once again, it's not just love in the romantic sense with another man, but what really hit me was how she encountered God's immense love once again. That, to me, was the more important find for her. That was the bit that hit me somewhere deep in my heart and got me all teary-eyed, not knowing why I was tearing, but claiming that it was God working something in my heart because only He could make me tear up so mysteriously like that.

One of the main characters in the book was a catholic priest Daisy called Father Laurent. On page 131 and over to page 132, this is what he told her - and I think this is the main message of the book really:

"Maybe it isn't the best time to tell you this, but I think you should know that you've been designed for a deeper love than what you're looking for. We all have. The love you find in God and the love he gives you to give away to others is what you're really after, Daisy. It's what we all long for. And no one can keep you from having it and having it in abundance. No one but you. ... Everything you hunger for, you've already been given. You're already loved beyond your wildest dreams. You are wearing the ruby slippers, Daisy. They've been on your feet the whole time."

Daisy replies, "You make it sound so easy."

Father Laurent pauses just a second. "It's not that it's so easy, it's that it's so magnificent. And you don't have to fight for it. It's already yours."

Scarily, way too often while I was reading this book, it felt like I was Daisy. And this book was written just for me, for what I've been going through. And hearing the song "Your Love is Reaching Me" by Paul Baloche on Thursday morning, the morning after I finished the book, somehow just reinforced the lessons of the book.

Thank you, Weiping! I totally agree with you about how this book is so fantastically helpful because it's not just a self-help book, but it ministers to you so indirectly and yet directly through fiction.
