4 May: Chua family gathering - Memorial

Image
In the same month of May but in different years, my grandfather, grandmother and aunty Jenni passed away. So around this time, we would gather as an entire Chua clan and visit their niche, which are presently all at the Garden of Remembrance at (faraway) Old Choa Chu Kang Road.  We would also take the chance to remember uncle Vincent, who committed suicide at the really young age of 19 when he was living on his own in Thailand. From there, we headed to Havelock Road, Mu Liang Zai Liang Kee Teochew Restaurant. There, jiejie, Edmund, gege, Carolin and May Ern joined us. Good May Ern fell asleep in Carolin's arms for about 30 minutes and woke up just in time, at about the tail end of the dinner. This is a shot I took of aunty Elsie interacting with May Ern as May Ern started to make her baby noises that, for simplicity sake, I shall just describe as "oohs" and "ahs". Didn't I catch a good shot?? hee hee It was a very simple family affair, but most ...

Happy Birthday Gege!

Image
In celebration of my brother's birthday, the family had dinner at Crystal Jade Palace Restaurant at Taka, where we TOTALLY over-ordered. But it was a great time of enjoying good food and catching up and laughing (at least for me) at May Ern's antics and actions. We ended the night with a family photo taken at home - thank God May Ern woke up without much fussing and looked (somewhat) at the camera - I think this is a nice family photo!:) HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEGE! I thank God for such a tech-savvy brother like you. I'm so proud of you for looking out and loving Carolin and May Ern sooo much while making it a point to keep in touch with the rest of the family and serving in church. I thank God He is blessing you with stability in your job and that while you work hard, He makes and will continue to make His favour so evidently work for you. I pray that God will continue to expand your capacity and enlarge your patience and wisdom as you grow in intimacy in Him:)

30 Apr & 1 May: Momentum 2014

Image
Last week, we had 1 public holiday - Labour Day on 1 May. However, it wasn't much of a public holiday for me because it felt like I was still at work! Why? We attended the Momentum 2014 conference organised by Love Singapore. It was held at Suntec Convention Centre Level 6, on Friday evening 7:30 to 10pm and Saturday 9am to 6pm. I was stuck at work on Friday evening and rushed to meet Eliz and Shu at Suntec. We gobbled down the yummy mushroom swiss burger and Hershey's sundae pie at Burger King - 2 things I REEEAAALLLY like. It was all the more delicious because Burger King is difficult to find in places I frequent in Singapore (i.e. home, church, work, heh heh). So it was a little rushed, but I was soooo happy to get to eat the sundae pie after such a loooong time. We were fashionably late, entering the auditorium at about 8pm, half an hour late. Worship had ended and the first speaker, Dr Jennifer Moore, was already into her message. After Dr Moore came US ...

27 April: Sunday afternoon - Just the 3 of us!

Image
Because the bros were away and Joanne was off at her usual handball training, it was just Shu-En, Eliz and I after 2nd service. We skipped prayer meeting (heehee) and went off for a late lunch at Fat Boy's, something which I have been craving for awhile now. But before we left church, Eliz was determined to try the $1 ice cream from the ice cream truck uncle who sets up shop at our church every Sunday. After a very satisfying lunch at Fat Boy's, we went back to the car to find... A PARKING TICKET!!! SIGH. I thought public parking was free on Sundays and Public Holidays, so I was fined $30 for failing to display coupons:/ But I felt much better after Shu-En and Eliz managed to get 2 tubs of Haagen Daaz Macadamia Nut ice-cream from a nearby petrol kiosk - my life felt complete as the 3 of us shared a tub of Macadamia Nut ice-cream while watching an episode of Running Man at my house. Even though I was parents-less (parents were in Ilo Ilo for the weekend) and boyfrie...

25 April: Sending off the bros

Image
In a what they call "once in a lifetime" experience, Eugene, Joel and Kah Wan flew off to Melbourne to meet James, and they were off to a 15-day trip in Melbourne, Tasmania and Sydney. We all went to the airport to send them off, chilling out first over ice cream at Gelateria, where they actually provided free toppings of nuts and chocolate rice! They get back only on 9 May. Looking forward to their (his? heehee) return!

18-20 April: Good Friday weekend

Image
The Good Friday long weekend was one of rest (on Friday and Saturday) and activity (on Sunday) for me. On a side note, I'm really enjoying a slow down in my church involvement since I stepped out of the Youth ministry as youth mentor and I cut down my worship duty to once a month. On Friday , I woke up slightly later just in time to wash up and head out for dimsum brunch with my parents, brother, Carolin, baby and Carolin's parents. We went to Imperial Treasure Cantonese Restaurant at Great World City. I stuffed myself silly with the yummy custard buns and egg tarts - they were really good! The rest of the Friday and Saturday was spent at home, reading, falling asleep, waking up to disturb General, then reading again, falling asleep, waking up to disturb General, reading... and the pattern continued. I actually woke up for dinner with a headache, which my dad thinks is from sleeping TOO MUCH. Saturday was really free too. But I also spent the day preparing for cell...

12 Apr - William & Phebe's wedding

Image
On 12 April, Saturday, it was a rainy day. It was also the day William finally married Phebe! The wedding ceremony at LSBC started at 11am. Phebe wore such a demure and ladylike gown! One thing I like about weddings - we make the effort to dress up a little! The dinner was at Meritus Mandarin - same as my brother and Carolin. There were much lesser tables though - 50 instead of 70. Phebe's gown was more elaborate now, as compared to her very simple and demure gown in for the wedding ceremony. I was seated with worship team people like Denis and family, Jon Tsang and Christel, Douglas and Charmaine, Karyne, Eugene and Victoria. We were joking that our table consisted of a full band - drummer, guitarists, pianists, vocalists and sound man. Anyway, the food was good and seated directly opposite me was cute baby Dana. I really liked the crab with 'mantou' and the 'oh nee' (yam paste)! It was an enjoyable wedding dinner:)
