Same Yet Different Weekend

Image
The weekend that just passed was similar to many other weekends in that I was on worship duty so I had to wake up early on Saturday to practice, then went for worship practice at 1pm and left church after Youth service for dinner with people of my age group (i.e. Joanne, Eugene, Heli, Joel, Jolene, with UKK and Beatrice joining us), and then waking up early on Sunday to play for both services. At the same time, the weekend that just passed was different in that I brought General to Pasir Ris Park to swim in the seawater on Saturday morning together with Miming and Eugene, and then on Sunday afternoon I went out for tea with my cell mates, Bernice and Joelynne, before having a YUMMY dinner at Sun With Moon Restaurant. On Saturday morning, Miming, General and I left the house at about 8:30am to pick up Eugene from his home before driving over to Pasir Ris Park. My sister and Edmund had told me about a couple from their church who brought their labrador swimming in the sea every ...

Looking back on the weekend of 18 & 19 May

Image
I think the weekend that just passed was the longest ever for me. LSBC was one of the hosting venues for Global Day of Prayer (GDOP) on 19 May. This was on top of the youth service and 2 main services where I was also rostered to play the keyboard. Due to the additional songs for GDOP, worship practice started at 11am on Saturday, instead of the usual 1pm. The plan was to practice all the way till 3pm, then rest for an hour before playing for youth service. However, we practiced all the way till 3:30pm and we were still left with a few songs to practice. When the youths went off for their cell discussion time, I was SO tired I gave up on the idea of sitting in with one of my sec 3 cell groups. I walked straight home and slept until 7:45pm, when cell group starts at 8pm. I was late for cell group, but the nap did wonders. I don't know how I would have lasted through cell group if not for the wondrous nap. I quickly left cell group at about 10:30pm and got into bed a...

A Good Weekend

Image
(Before I say anything else, I apologise for the poor quality of my photos. It was taken impromptu and I had to use my camera phone, which really isn't that great:/) Yesterday, 19 May 2012, was a really long day in church. I had to be in church by 7:45am to prepare for the worship session of the Community Penetration Seminar 10 Day 1. My alarm clock failed me or something, and I actually woke up at 7:20am!! It was a mad rush as I rushed to do what was the most necessary to me and reached church by 7:50am. THANK GOD I STAY WHERE I STAY. It was a full day at church for the seminar, then Youth Ablaze was just worship and cell discussion where the entire sec 2 zone got together for the first time to get to know each other better and to plan for the Youth Connect next week. As Youth Mentor, I decided to slack and go home to take a nap:D I managed to sneak in a 20-minute nap before Joanne called to say they were coming over to pick me up for dinner! He Li drove me, Eliz, S...

Not Used to a Saturday like this

We are in Week 10 of 2012. Out of the past 9 Saturdays, I have had to attend worship practices for 7 Saturdays. I had the first Saturday of the year off, then I had to attend worship practices for the next 4 Saturdays. Then I had 1 weekend break. And then it was another 3 Saturdays of being involved. This week and next week, I'm not on duty. So I'm having a break. On one hand, it's amazing to see how many Saturdays have been taken up by my worship ministry duties, which makes me feel a bit tired. And makes me feel rather glad that I don't have to spend this morning in the music room, listening to MP3 tracks and practicing away on the piano to prepare for worship prac in the afternoon. On the other hand, I'm glad I got to play this much. Because it makes me practice and listen to tracks even more. It forces me to keep in touch with the piano and I don't get rusty like that. I can get stressed out, especially when I'm on the 1st keyboard and I have to be...

Ugly Wrist Guard:(

Image
I had a bad case of Monday blues this week. One of the aggravating factors was that I started wearing a wrist guard on Monday. I was hoping for a nicer-coloured wrist guard, but this was the only colour they had at Guardian - what appears to me to be a "sickly colour" associated with all bandages! I've been wearing this wrist guard whenever I go out. At home, I paste a "salon pas" or some other kind of deep heat sticker to relieve the soreness/ache. What happened? Well, all along I've always had a weak wrist. Whenever I am on worship duty, my wrists, especially my right wrist, would be very stiff and a little bit sore after I play the keyboard. It's a little bit worse when I'm on the 1st keyboard that week, as compared to only playing the 3rd keyboard. Over the weekend that just passed, we had a fantastic time of extended worship as it was the first of 2 Worship Emphasis weeks. Being on the 1st keyboard playing for majority of the Youth Ablaz...

So, Bar A exams are over!

My last paper, Company Law, ended at 8pm on Friday, 12 November. I then headed to Uncle KK's house for cell group meeting, which ended quite late. On Saturday, it was a looong day which started with me waking up at 5:30am. We had to be in church to get the bus to the Padang by 6:45am. We were heading to the Padang because it was the start and end point of the I Love Singapore Walk. We thank God for wonderful, albeit really hot, weather, and a good turnout. (Right picture: That is the Love Singapore committee on stage with guest-of-honour, Prof S Jayakumar) Unfortunately, a few of my cell group friends pulled out of the walk at the last minute and so there were only a few of us left who actually went for the walk. It was still fun though, not counting the fact that we had to walk the approximately 3km route REALLY slowly because the crowd was moving at a remarkably slow pace. We tried to overtake people whenever we could, and finished the walk in under one and half hours, I think. I...

Another Week, Gone

Image
Tuesday, 14 September We had land law lecture in the afternoon, and Angie brought us a treat - Koi bubble tea! It was fun, chewing on the pearls. And it helped to keep me awake and not zone out during the lecture:) Wednesday, 15 September I did not do an entire day's worth of slacking. I went for an interview in the morning, then had lunch at Mos Burger at Takashimaya - it's been EONS since I last ate at Mos Burger! Anyway, the main purpose of being at Taka was to taste some mooncakes, and buy some mooncakes home for the family. I ended up buying this flaky yam mooncake, which tastes like the teochew dessert 'oh nee' when heated up - DELICIOUS. I also bought mao shan wang durian mooncakes from the Peony Jade stall - WHICH WAS FANTASTIC. The durian mooncakes cost alot, but I think it was worth every cent! The slacking continued with some mario kart wii played before dinner time. Then, I went to the airport to send off Jon Cheong, Marilyn and Jia Wei. John Teng and I bot...

Back in Singapore For Good. Really. Reallyreally.

This has been quite a packed weekend for me. So packed that I think I have not had time to think of feeling jet lagged, or missing life in Nottingham. In fact, with regards to the jet lag, I feel like I am not jet lagged at all . So. I arrived back in Singapore with my family on Friday evening, 6pm. I went to bed at 11-ish. I wanted to wake up at 7am so that I would have sufficient time to squeeze in a short run, wash up, have breakfast, and prepare for the worship practice at 12:30pm. But I switched off both my alarms and went back to sleep. I only woke up at 10am. Of course, no time for a run. I took a quick bath, completely skipped breakfast and it was straight to printing out chord sheets and preparing for the worship practice. Then it was off to church after hurriedly packing two slices of bread into a ziplock bag to bring along with me in case I got hungry later. The entire afternoon was spent in church. By the time I reached home, it was time to drive to Jien's house to pick...
