Latest Earworm - A Little Braver by New Empire

Image
First heard this song on Spotify when they suggested this song from Korean drama serial Uncontrollably Fond's OST. It's really nice! Love the lyrics and music arrangement.

Acoustic version of "Jesus"

Image
I am a sucker for acoustic arrangements. This acoustic version of "Jesus" by Chris Tomlin is SO GOOD.

Current Craze - Moonlight Drawn by Clouds (and Park Bo Gum)

Image
In the craziness running up to the wedding, I have been finding respite in a few things - playing the mobile game Hay Day (taking care of my chickens, cows and sheep, planting my carrots, baking pies, soups and serving customers visiting my town by train), and watching this Korean drama serial currently airing in Korea called "Moonlight Drawn By Clouds" (aka "Love in the Moonlight"). This is one of my favourite songs from their Original Sound Track (OST): I am not a fan of 'sageuk' Korean dramas (where they're dressed in old fashion garbs etc), but really liking this show! And the lead actor, Park Bo Gum... oh my gosh really loving his acting. In real life, he seems to be a really polite, kind, young man (see his recent guest appearance on 2 Days 1 Night) and he openly says he's Christian! *swoon*

Doctors craze continues - OST song "Sunshower"

Image
I think my previous drama craze was for "Cheese in the Trap", except the last 2 episodes where I was supremely disappointed in it and gave up on it. I remember I was also crazy about the original soundtrack (OST) of Cheese in the Trap. It is now (about) the same for "Doctors". This song, "Sunshower", is really nice! Very soothing... (And just look at the lead actor's handsome expression as he looks at the lead actress!!! Sigh... hahaha) I especially love the instrumental version of the same song:

Current drama serial addiction - Doctors

Image
I'm embarrassed to say this but... I'm addicted to the Korean drama serial "Doctors" (aka "Doctor Crush"). It is presently airing in Korea every Monday and Tuesday night and they just finished airing episode 8. This is my current ear worm, as a result of this drama serial addiction:

Appreciating arrangement of music

Image
I'm still crazy about the soundtrack (and all background music) of Korean drama serial "Cheese in the Trap". It is the biggest source of inspiration for me as I research, prepare and practise for our church's upcoming Easter production. One thing I really enjoy about the OST is the different ways one song can be arranged - fast, slow, funny, sad. Case in point - the song called "Cheese in the Trap. This is the original - sung by a male singer and it is slightly more upbeat and has a full band: Part 7 of the Korean drama's OST was just released, with a slow version of the song. It is sung by a female singer and it is slow version of the original, and only with the piano as an accompanying instrument. It is SO NICE. I heard just the piano as background music in the drama serial and was wondering what song was it... Little did I realise it was a re-arranged version of the original!

Current Song ringing in my head

Image
So I've been really crazy about Korean drama serial Cheese in the Trap. It airs every Monday and Tuesday night in Korea and I impatiently wait for the subbed videos to come online on Tuesdays and Wednesdays!! haha. I have also mentioned before that the Official Soundtrack (OST) is REEEAALLLYYY good too. Many Korean indie bands or artists, such as Vanilla Acoustic. It is giving me alot of inspiration and reference points for our church's upcoming Easter production... Anyway, this is my favourite song of the OST to-date. The title is "The Time We Shared". It is very soothing and in this period when work is really busy and church involvement is at an all-time high and my social quota is running dangerously overboard, I plug into this song and just trudge on.

Prime Minister & I (and Sweet Lies by The Barberettes)

Image
So I'm slacking on the job to post this. But it's my latest "happy song" that perks me up when work begins to feel a little dreary or mundane. This is a Korean song entitled "Sweet Lies" by US-based trio The Barberettes. It is SUCH a happy song. This drama serial just finished airing in Korea this week. To be exact, the last episode aired on Tuesday, 4 Feb. The ending was MOST disappointing. The run-up to the bomb of an ending was most enjoyable though, hence intensifying the displeased disappointment in the final episode, episode 17. Lee Bum Soo (Lead actor) was SO suave though. So manly... so dependable... so in control of himself and being responsible of what he needed to do and what had to be done... I don't usually do this... but... *swoon*!!:D So, for Lee Bum Soo in all 17 episodes, for the well-rounded supporting characters except Na Young in all 17 episodes, and for the great script in episodes 1-15, DO WATCH THIS DRAMA SERIAL! But b...

My current playlist at work: Miss Korea OST

Image
For lunch just now, I had phad thai from one of the thai stalls at Maxwell Food Centre. Then I had a Cornetto ice-cream for something sweet in my mouth. And now, I'm fighting very hard against lapsing into a food coma. 2 things that are helping me in this fight - hot Korean brown rice green tea, and music from the Original Soundtrack (OST) of Korean drama serial Miss Korea: I only started watching bits of this show from episode 6 onwards. A website I follow daily, www.koalasplayground.com only just started to write episode recaps of this show a few weeks back, starting from episode 8, if I remember correctly. Anyway, it is a very interesting show! I think when the DVD set comes out I won't mind buying it as an investment to pass time when I exercise on the treadmill (if I ever do that, haha). The chemistry between the 2 leads is FANTASTIC, and they act SO well. The lead actress' acting skills seem to have improved in quantum leaps, it's amazing. The storyline...

One more nice song from The Heirs OST

Image
This is another song recently added to the OST of the Heirs (Korean drama serial I'm following right now). The tune is catchy and it's a piano song! I think this is quite a nice FMV ("fan music video") of the lead couple and their sweet moments:)

My Song of the Day

Image
So, following from my previous blog post on this show, I've been following every episode of Korean drama serial The Heirs ever since. And this song is from the OST (official soundtrack) of the show... The song title is quite weird, "Biting my Lower Lip", by this American-born Korean female singer named Esna. But I think it is quite catchy and more upbeat as compared to the mournful ballads. It is now one of the songs I play in the background when I am feeling super sleepy at work...:D

Unending Love

Image
Today, I woke up all refreshed, renewed, and this song just keeps ringing in my head:

Oh To Play the Piano Like That

Image
A cover of a song entitled "Without You" by David Guetta featuring Usher (I've yet to listen to the original actually). I especially marvel at the pianist from 2:58 onwards - Oh all the running notes!!

Your Love is Reaching Me

Image
I'll blog more on this as soon as I bring myself around to doing it, but since this morning, this song has been ringing in my head and just deep within me: I love because You first loved me A sinner saved by grace You exchanged Your blameless life for mine A debt I can't repay I don't deserve Your favour, still You love me without measure Your love is reaching me And I'm responding to it Your love is changing me As I surrender to it I'm holding nothing back I give You every part My soul has been released Your love has captured my heart "

These songs sound alike to me!

Image
I first heard this song "Gonna Get Over You" by Sara Bareilles some months ago. And, honestly? I really like the lyrics! I remember thinking that I can really identify with the lyrics when I first heard it. Also, hear the piano parts! I love Sara Bareilles:) Anyway, have a listen to this song by clicking here to see the video - IT'S A SUPER CUTE VIDEO. Watch the entire thing, right to the end ok? After watching the fabulous Sara Bareilles, look at this music video of "Be My Baby" by Wonder Girls (Korean girl group). It just REALLY reminded me of the Sara Bareilles' song! It's like, similar, and yet, then again, maybe not that similar after all?:)

Jason Mraz - his singing and guitar-playing

I love Jason Mraz for his great voice and guitar-playing. He's one fantastic live singer! Not that I've actually watched him perform live and in the flesh, but I've seen youtube and other videos, and his range of voice and the magic he produces with the guitar really amazes me. His new song, on first blush, doesn't really feel or sound like the "usual" Jason Mraz-kind of song, but the lyrics are so poignant and the acoustic feel of the whole song is just REALLY nice. I can't embed here, but please click here to go listen to it! Honestly, for me, I try not to dwell too much on the lyrics because it just gets me all emo!:D I mostly just listen to the arrangement of the music and melodies, and marvel at the range of his voice!

Awesome Cover - love the guitar playing!

This is a really nice cover of the song "Dare You to Move", originally sung by Switchfoot, a Christian band. The guitar-playing is AWESOME!! Click here to be directed to the video on Youtube. I can't embed it here because of its restrictions:)

I want to play the piano like Sara Bareilles!

Image
Call me a noob but I only just discovered how fantastic a pianist, singer and performer Sara Bareilles is. I hear her play the piano and I wish with all my heart that I could play the piano like her! Just listen to the quality and fullness of her piano as she sings this song: One of my favourite Sara Bareilles songs is this one - "Many the Miles" (on the more emo side, I used to think that I identified very much with the lyrics of this song:D): Another of my favourite Sara Bareilles songs is this one - "King of Anything" - I think this music video is nicely done too: Lastly, I think she's not only a great singer and pianist, she does great at putting a new spin on song arrangements too! Just look at how she arranged the well-known song "Single Ladies", originally sung by Beyonce: I love her! I want all her albums please! I think she has released 2 albums so far:)

Korean Drama Serial "Heartstrings" - Because I Miss You

Image
I recently caught a few of the middle episodes of this Korean drama serial called "Heartstrings". On episode 10, the lead actor sang this song to the lead actress as a "late confession" of his love for her. I think the melody is really nice and soothing, the lead actor's voice is so nice on the ears, and the words are soooo romantic! haha. Have a listen for yourself! I found this youtube video that has English subtitles so you know what he's singing:D

Interesting MV storyline

Recently, Korean boyband 2AM released their newest album, 'Saint o'clock'. One of their promotional songs for this album is called 'You Wouldn't Answer My Calls', and I think it's nice! I'm quite impressed with the music video of this song, which you can view here: It doesn't have English subtitles so I have absolutely no idea what the lyrics mean or what the MV characters are saying. But, basically, the girl got murdered on the 25th. But the MV is about the guy dealing with her death on the 26th. And there's this 'time portal' thingy in the phone where the girl actually called him from the past. He tries to stop her from opening the door to the murderer to prevent her death by calling back to the 25th, but he couldn't change anything. As an aside, I'd like to draw your attention to the 3rd guy who sings in the MV. His name is Jo Kwon. He is the leader of 2AM and I have been watching him in the reality show 'We Got Married...
